retrieved classic seti info and tried to install and run boinc, tells me account # is invalid???????

So far you have successfully activated your Classic SETI account and figured out how to hide your computers. Could you expand on the problem you are having?

I heard that the BOINC client is picky with spaces in front and behind the ID# when you try to attach.

You do not attach with the S@H classic password, you activate that account, and that generates an email with the BOINC password which you use.
