Why do so many of the posts say "Message ###### - Posted ## ### 2005 ##:##:## UTC This post has been filtered (rating: -##) and the user is on your ignore list, press here to view this thread without filtering" Even when its not actually been filtered and the 'here' is not a link? Why do so many of the posts say It's a way of telling the poster of that message that he/she/it is plonked! A post looks like that when you have that poster on Ignore. The whole post is collapsed and you need to press the link to see it. So when I and other copy - paste a collapsed post, it's a way of telling that this is what I see of that post. San Diego should bid for Iowa battleship UNION-TRIBUNE EDITORIAL August 27, 2005 Thanks to San Francisco's anti-military prejudice, the Navy's historic retired battleship Iowa is looking for a home. A San Diego that was visionary enough to bring the decommissioned aircraft carrier Midway here, and make it a resounding tourist success, should consider adding the Iowa to this city's maritime attractions. The Navy had been prepared to donate the majestic Iowa as a naval museum and war memorial to San Francisco. But then that city's ultra-liberal Board of Supervisors voted 8-3 last month to reject the ship. An embarrassed Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a former San Francisco mayor who arranged a $3 million appropriation to have the moth-balled Iowa towed from Rhode Island, called that "a very petty decision." Stockton, an agricultural port city on the San Joaquin River, then offered a dock site, waterfront building and adjacent parking to accommodate the Iowa. Feinstein is proposing legislation that would open bidding for the Iowa to any California city. So, why not San Diego? The Midway is proving a spectacular success, drawing 880,000 visitors in its first year. Imagine what the historic Iowa, a World War II and Korean War veteran recommissioned in the 1980s, would draw as a second living-history naval attraction on San Diego's waterfront. Private initiative and private money brought the Midway here to serve as a nonprofit museum and tribute to America's naval history. The Iowa could do the same in a San Diego setting far more appropriate than Stockton's inland waterway. We urge the city, civic leaders and San Diego's congressional delegation to consider this opportunity now while the Iowa awaits selection of its new home. Nowhere in California would it find a more fitting berth than in San Diego. me@rescam.org |

![]() Luis Posada Carriles will now apply for US citizenship, under a law applying to non-citizens who served honourably in the US military. |
