Philippe, they had some problems with the WU's that were sent out on the 14th and 15th. They corrected the problem and suggested that testers reset the project. Those WU's probably won't validate. Grab some new ones and crunch on! (It is a beta test project, so expect plenty of hiccups like this.) |

Joined seti beta yesterday at the same time I joined orbit and set one system to resource share seti@home 40%, seti@home beta 40% and orbit 20%. Three initial observations: 1) The cache on the system has grown from 10 Wus to 15 Wus. I was expecting the cache to settle out at around 10 WUs split across live and beta seti WUs. 2) Orbit is not sending work but seti@home beta has taken 100% of the time since I joined the project. Not sure why seti@home is not getting any CPU time 3) The beta seti@home WUs take a lot longer to process. Is this expected? |

I know and my WUs are OK... It's just the ones that they are supposed to be compared with that are not! That's why I said I had no luck. ![]() Grab some new ones and crunch on! I must say, the scheduler is working a bit too good for Beta on CC4.45 I've put all projects on NNW, but for Beta. I only take the others off when I test something (like Pirates). Since the application on Beta takes double the time of the optimised client (again), it'll download 2 WUs against my specific settings of connect to every 0.5 days. Not a problem, as it'll run it easily, together with the CPDN unit I still have. But today I checked if I could reach Seti proper. Just to see if I had the trouble others here show. I don't, it downloaded a WU, so I returned Seti to NNW. So that's the 1 CPDN unit I had, one Seti unit, two Seti Beta units. Only Beta is on Allowed work fetch. Until one of the Beta units had a little over an hour still to go. Then the scheduler kicked in: 18/06/2005 15:42:35|SETI@home Beta Test|Requesting 3 seconds of work, returning 0 results 18/06/2005 15:42:36|SETI@home Beta Test|Scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta_cgi/cgi succeeded 18/06/2005 15:42:37|SETI@home Beta Test|Started download of 03mr03ab.10144.4689.442338.131 18/06/2005 15:42:42|SETI@home Beta Test|Finished download of 03mr03ab.10144.4689.442338.131 18/06/2005 15:42:42|SETI@home Beta Test|Throughput 84858 bytes/sec Okay, worked. No panic, we'll continue the way we've been doing things for the past couple of days. Until the new Seti unit started running, and immediately my computer went into panic mode: 18/06/2005 17:44:57|SETI@home|Starting result 18au03aa.28173.2032.65882.165_3 using setiathome version 4.11 18/06/2005 17:45:23||Suspending work fetch because computer is overcommitted. 18/06/2005 17:45:23||Using earliest-deadline-first scheduling because computer is overcommitted. So I did the last thing I could do, set Beta to NNW as well. Panic mode turned off immediately. 18/06/2005 17:52:39||Allowing work fetch again. 18/06/2005 17:52:39||Resuming round-robin CPU scheduling. You just got to love this. ;) (@JM7: No complaints. Complimetns for the scheduler that works too perfectly. ;)) |

I agree with you there Jord, it's crunching along on my system nicely. I've seen a couple of times when it went into EDF then less than a minute later corrected itself. Right now I've got 2 wu's each for: CPDN, Einstein, PP@H, S@H, S@HBeta. Yesterday I had all that and 2 Pirates wu's & 1 Lattice wu. BURP, Pirates, Lattice & Orbit (no app as of yet) are looking for work while I crunch :-) I'm set to connect at 0.5 day... Haven't ran out of work yet! The scheduler is a booger to understand at first, but it works just fine for me. Thanks again JM7!!! Keep up the good work!!! (stepping away from the pom-poms) No matter where you go, there you are... ![]() |

HAs it been mentioned that the quota per day is a little high, mine is at 500 lol sure hope I never get that many.... Semper Eadem So long Paul, it has been a hell of a ride. Park your ego's, fire up the computers, Science YES, Credits No. |

They all are, Fuzzy. Which may bring in a problem seeing how FJaccard is going through his units. Downloaded 149 so far, all but 14 directly went out the window with a Client Error. One would think one would adjust their connect to server then, but no. I think he has an Ati videocard as all the units dunk out with - exit code -1073741502 (0xc0000142) Might be wise not to run with graphics or screensaver on! |

They all are, Fuzzy. And his daily quota will be pretty low at the moment (unless he has fixed the problem and the 14 successes were the last ones). ![]() ![]() BOINC WIKI |

Just a thought but is it wise for anyone to download a large cache's of units on a trial project, or for the project masters to allow this to happen, 500/day !!!! The project could go base over apex at any time and therefore; What do I do with all these downloaded units? is it going to be restarted? will it process these downloaded units? etc. etc. Two out of the three results that I have returned are pending, one due to the afore mentioned, and the other maybe! returned before deadline but that computer has also a larger cache than I would have thought wise, and only returned one unit in nearly two days, that maybe a connection time thing so no real critism there. [/quote] Jord, I happen to have an ATI graphics card on my laptop... I can see graphics if i want, but i choose not to... BOINC installed as service...blank screensaver.... (check Pirates board for more info) no errors as of yet... |

I also have an ATI card and don't get any graphics within the app, but no errors either. I haven't tried it as a screensaver though. |

On Pirates we're trying to find out what causes the Ati cards not showing graphics for Einstein (and therefore Seti), KJF. That's mostly the 9600 and 9800 series cards. Not the mobile version chips in laptops. As far as I know they do things fine. They haven't worked since Boinc CC 4.20, if I am not mistaken, so it's a tricky thing to try to break. Or repair. Also, anything we find through Pirates won't be fixed overnight. As far as I understand we need new apps for the projects that don't show graphics, plus a new Boinc CC. So just because you think you have graphics & a screensaver on your system, doesn't mean the rest of us graphics forsaken people do. ;) |
