I also have an ATI card and don't get any graphics within the app, but no errors either. I haven't tried it as a screensaver though.

Yes, we found out about your ATI card here...

Sorry about that.. ;)

don't take it the wrong way, but I am not aware of what version does/doesn't work. it wasn't meant as a "in you face" kind of thing, merely I was glad that I thought i was making a contribution towards the solution of the problem. thank you for pointing out now that said contribution was in vain, simply because I was not aware of what ATI cards do and do not run with Pirates/BOINC.

Jord, graphics & screensavers were installed on mine, like yours & everyone else... I am one of the forsaken also... a gimp if you will, I have, ATI..aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh ;-)

Ah now, that's where you're wrong. I don't allow screensavers to be saving my screen. I have found this nice button on the front of my monitor. Power it says next to it. Click it and monitor is off. Way better than what the lazy types do, leave every harddrive and monitor on and consume power all the time. ;)

If you look back to Misfits post #125270 you seemed to have missed that one and easily picked up mine. I guess I might seem like an easier target then he is. We both basically said the same thing... We have the ATI graphics card...no errors...I have no problems with it, BOINC, or any other BOINC application, until you made issue of it. It has run so far when I have asked it to. It's a 2 year old laptop Jord, don't act like I have cutting edge technology here. I tried to see graphics while the wu was crunching... check the Pirates site, you'll see my comments. I'm no fool Jord, so please do not treat me as one.

Message 125359 - Posted: 19 Jun 2005, 14:49:16 UTC

Morning all,
I've been gone for almost 5 days. The reason is a BSOD that read "unbootable volume" and immediately shut my laptop down. I had wife send me the Configuration CDs(I'm in Michigan, she's in South Carolina). I'm now back. Lost a dozen Seti and PPAH wu (oh well). The very last operation I performed prior to the BSOD was to try to get my Account Key email after signing up for Beta (User ID 77).

All appears to be OK, I guess I should put the dozen screws back into this laptop.

Have fun

I've been gone for almost 5 days.

Well all you have missed is

1. The recovery from outages of SETI is now almost non existent.
2. Check out ORBIT@Home

Welcome back
BOINC-Wiki-Thanks Paul

What is the validation policy on the beta project?

I have some WUs that have had 3 good results returned like this one or this one, but no credit has been granted yet. Is this because the requirements are different, or perhaps the validator isn't running?

"Checked, but no consensus yet", this means the results wasn't "similar enough" to pass validation, and must wait for next result...

Tada.. 6 WUs returned and the first has been validated so I am off the mark.

The scheduler is working OK, my intial observations on the growing cache size were due to the default settings for the beta being higher than I normally use. Reset it to my normal value and things have settled down as expected.

The beta seti@home WUs take a lot longer to process. Is this expected?

The CPU time I have is some 30% higher with the Beta version, based on 4 WU's processed.

It would appear to be so. I looked at the other boxes from the result you provided and compared them to my box. At first I thought it was due do to I have an older manager. But I see from your result all of you are using newer managers. So the only major difference I can see is the benchmark scores are higher for the AMDs.

Misfit
yes they do on primary view. View started from Work Unit

Those are single cpu engines versus the Intels (HT= virtual 2 cpus).

The Intel HT takes two Work Units at the same time. They act like
a so called multi processor host.

By comparing the daily rates of both, not only looking to the single work unit

you will get something like that

the amd are getting let's say 35 cs per WU. The HT based Intel will get let's 2 x 20 csper WU=40 cs

so even the score per single wu is rated "deeper", due they do more in the same time.
The final resulting (for project seti) will turn the intel into a system able to generate more credits per day

OK I get it. But also then I'll be getting more cobblestones if my WU's are shared with AMD's then if they are shared with other Intel's? It would be nice if there was an option for that. :)

yep. that's the way it runs in theory. looking to the results, there is nearly always a mix of different hosts.

When all reporting clients would be intel HT, it would turn the other way

the same situation occurs, when different cpus (speed of) are getting the same unit to operate.

The same work could be delivered to let's say an amd 1200 an amd 2000 and an amd 2800.

with the *huge* amount of work over time we all are doing, justice is restored ;-)

It would be nice if there was an option for that. :)

let's try a feature request;)

But serious, I don't know "boinc" very well, But I'm sure, there must be a flag that could be set for this. The possible disadvantage could be, someone with a xyz 1799 cpu must wait until "others" with xyz 1799 cpu appears.

On the other side, this would increase the load of the project "server" in belongs of database (more checks--> more selection -->more load, less work to be downloaded)

It's done in a certain way today with the plattforming of "Windows "nixnix" and the "macs"

the good thing is, when a project doesn't has work, it hasn't for any kind of cpu type;)

yes, for now:)
perhaps it will change in the next couple of hours or days:(

seeing all the "mob" behind, all those crunchers having nothing better to do as to crunch like it would be the very last work they can do:)

now going out to work and you should walk you to bed;)

let's run the clients themself...
