Just grabbed the new copy and at first glance I'm not seeing any visible changes. Anybody know what was changed?

And I guess for whenever Rom or another developer reads this, it would be nice to have a version history available so people could see what was actually being changed/fixed.

I agree - a version history would be good to have. I tried the BOINC site and couldnt find anything there either.

Having said that the new version installed very nicely straight over the old one.

I found install over old when on my XP machines, went without a hitch. However over on the Win98 machines, I did have to close the current BOINC CC to avoid an error. just my $0.02

I closed BOINC as well - sorry that wasnt clear in my earlier post. I wasnt brave enough to try with it up and running. Still, considering the problems there have been (granted mainly with SETI not BOINC)its quite refreshing to find the process trouble free.

Sorry for not responding sooner, here is a change list for stuff that shows up in the public project:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/boinc_public/checkin_notes
(3.19 -> 3.20)

Here is the change list for the development branch:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/boinc/checkin_notes

(4.00 -> Current)

Hope this helps...

Good morning, Guido.

You can see the differences on this page - http://boinc.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/boinc_public/checkin_notes - if you go almost to the bottom and look where it says "Diffs between", then choose 3.19 in the top box and 3.20 in the bottom box, then click on "get diffs".

And yes, not much changed for the cruncher - most of the changes are at Berkeley.

When installing 3.20 over 3.19, has anybody lost any work units or credit? Since the last time when Berkeley suggested that we unattach and re-attach to the project, I ended up loosing all the WUs in my cache, as well as 2 that were almost finished. I also lost my original host number for that machine.
Thanks.

Regards, Daniel.

When you make an upgrade of the Boinc software, there is no need to detach and re-attach.
The only thing to do is overwrite the existing software. I do it after I closed the running client and had no problem at all. By doing like this, you do not loose any WU's.

Greetings from Belgium.

I found the same just close the client then let the installer run. All the work units re-appeared in the new version and the WU that was partly completed just took up where it had left off.

Same here! Just close the client and install over the old version. When you restart, it will continue working on the WUs it was working on before the install.

Claes Stefan reported in this post http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/forum_thread.php?id=1549 that it was not necessary to close the client when upgrading.

Dont know if I would be brave enough to try that. :)

The setup program closes down the client for you before actually installing files.
