Hi, I installed the BOINC version for Seti last week and I managed to downlaod a work unit. After completion it couldn't uploaded the work to the BOINC server. Now I can not seem to get work unit. This is the message that I get: --- - 2004-07-14 13:21:38 - Starting BOINC client version 3.19 for windows_intelx86 SETI@home - 2004-07-14 13:21:38 - Project prefs: using your defaults --- - 2004-07-14 13:21:38 - Renaming account_setiathome.berkeley.edu_.xml to account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml --- - 2004-07-14 13:21:38 - Couldn't rename account_setiathome.berkeley.edu_.xml to account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml --- - 2004-07-14 13:21:38 - Warning: not adding project account_setiathome.berkeley.edu_.xml SETI@home - 2004-07-14 13:21:38 - Host ID is 60154 --- - 2004-07-14 13:21:38 - General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 2004-07-09 19:26:58) --- - 2004-07-14 13:21:38 - General prefs: using your defaults SETI@home - 2004-07-14 13:21:39 - Deferring communication with project for 33 minutes and 6 seconds --- - 2004-07-14 13:28:53 - Fewer active results than CPUs; requesting more work SETI@home - 2004-07-14 13:28:53 - Requesting 76303 seconds of work SETI@home - 2004-07-14 13:28:53 - Sending request to scheduler: http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi SETI@home - 2004-07-14 13:28:58 - Scheduler RPC to http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi succeeded SETI@home - 2004-07-14 13:28:58 - Message from server: No work available SETI@home - 2004-07-14 13:28:58 - No work from project SETI@home - 2004-07-14 13:28:58 - Deferring communication with project for 1 hours, 0 minutes, and 0 seconds Is there a problem with the server? > Yes, there is a problem with the server. Please read the News on > http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/ > ---------------------- Bah! That so-called 'News' is pretty stale. It says "outages may occur throughout the night and possibly tomorrow". Well, 'the night' has come and gone, as has 'tomorrow', and we're now approaching the day after tomorrow. And nothing new on this 'News'. Would it be so hard to update that 'News' just once or twice a day? I'm sure they are busy trying to fix the problems, but just leaving us all hanging here in the dark is making the problem worse. Half the messages on the problems board are related to "can't get work units", "can't connect", "no work available", etc. All this thrashing by worried users must be putting an additional load on the servers. Even a short News update like "Thur, July 14, 8pm -- still recovering from server problems -- Please be patient." would reassure a lot of users. P.S. I signed up for a Predictor account, and connected to them via Boinc. They sent me a whole bunch of workunits right away, and continue to function fine. So I guess I'll just work for them until Seti comes back to life. At least my CPU cycles aren't going to waste in the meantime. |
