I transfered my account, did the download, but I can not attach to the project. It gives my a URL error. I am using http://setiathome.berkeley.edu which is what was sent me. Thanks Larry Hilley |

I had this problem too. However, I waited about 30 more minutes and the problem fixed itself somehow. Maybe it needs time to get your profile setup...? |

The link is the correct one. You did fill in the Account ID number as well? ---------------------- Jordâ„¢ |

I am having the same problem. Here is an copy of what shows up in the message window: --- - 2004-06-29 12:09:20 - Starting BOINC client version 3.19 for windows_intelx86 --- - 2004-06-29 12:09:20 - No general preferences found - using BOINC defaults http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-06-29 12:09:48 - Project prefs: using your defaults --- - 2004-06-29 12:09:49 - Fewer active results than CPUs; requesting more work --- - 2004-06-29 12:09:52 - Fewer active results than CPUs; requesting more work http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-06-29 12:09:52 - Requesting 17280 seconds of work http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-06-29 12:09:52 - Sending request to scheduler: http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-06-29 12:10:07 - Scheduler RPC to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi succeeded http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-06-29 12:10:07 - Message from server: Server has software problem http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-06-29 12:10:22 - Resetting project http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-06-29 12:10:22 - Detaching from project The fact that it says Message from Server: Server has software problem .... gives me a clue it maybe something with the server or my account. I can get into to account fine from the website. I activated my account on 6/25/2004 which was transferred over from the old seti@home classic. Any Ideas? I think it is safe to say that I waited longer than 30 mins. |

I'm getting the same result as The Viper. On two different computers. And I can check my account status fine, so the error message I get in a box: "BOINC failed to log in to http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/. Please check your account ID and try again." might need to be fixed to tell me what the problem really is... |

I have this problem too, and also an other one. When ever it gets connected to the scheduler it reports a bad parse of the data. It doesn't recognize the plain/text html/xml tags any more. After the error boinc automatically detaches seti@home and the logon error stratrs all over again. Here are the messages boinc exchanged with the server. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:06:46 - Detaching from project http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:08:14 - Project prefs: using your defaults --- - 2004-07-02 18:08:15 - Fewer active results than CPUs; requesting more work --- - 2004-07-02 18:08:18 - Fewer active results than CPUs; requesting more work http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:08:18 - Requesting 32364 seconds of work http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:08:18 - Sending request to scheduler: http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:08:20 - Scheduler RPC to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi failed http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:08:20 - No schedulers responded http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:08:20 - Deferring communication with project for 1 minutes and 0 seconds http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:09:20 - Sending request to scheduler: http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:09:42 - Scheduler RPC to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi succeeded http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:09:42 - SCHEDULER_REPLY::parse(): bad first tag Content-type: text/plain http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:09:52 - Resetting project http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:09:52 - Detaching from project http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:12:13 - Project prefs: using your defaults --- - 2004-07-02 18:12:13 - Fewer active results than CPUs; requesting more work --- - 2004-07-02 18:12:16 - Fewer active results than CPUs; requesting more work http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:12:16 - Requesting 32364 seconds of work http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:12:17 - Sending request to scheduler: http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:12:37 - Scheduler RPC to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi succeeded http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:12:37 - SCHEDULER_REPLY::parse(): bad first tag Content-type: text/plain http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:12:43 - Resetting project http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:12:43 - Detaching from project setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - 2004-07-02 18:13:42 - Project prefs: using your defaults Why does BOINC keep asking for server rights on my pc, I though it only donwloads and uploads files. That doesn't require server rights does it. I didn't believe all the fuss the other people made about boinc being full of bugs and tough to check it out for myself. Now I believe them to be true and Boinc doesn't even attaches itselves to seti@home. Well I think I'm going to crunch classic seti till the very end. Regards, Bert |

I also was having trouble attaching to the SETI@Home project, but after surfing around here for about five mintues, I tried it again and I'm now currently processing some work. Whee! |

I found that the URL that was emailed to me was incorrect. I found in another thread here that if you use http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/ as the Project URL, it will work and it did for me. Good luck. |

Good luck. > The correct URL is http://setiathome.berkeley.edu . The setiboinc URL will work now but will eventually be deactivated. If you attached useing the setiboinc URL you will have to detach and reattach useing http://setiathome.berkeley.edu eventually. Be carefull when attaching that you do not include leading or trailing spaces these can cause some annoying problems. John Keck BOINCing since 2002/12/08 |

I plug in the URL and account ID sent to me, but get an error 113 URL error. Any suggestions? |

Any suggestions? > I see two possiblilties. The first and easiest to fix is a space at either end of the URL. The second and much harder to diagnose and fix would be a misbehaving firewall/router/proxy. Zone Alarm has been known to cause trouble if it has been disabled, but not uninstalled. I have heard of problems with routers and proxies as well. |

Zone Alarm has been known to cause trouble > if it has been disabled, but not uninstalled. I have heard of problems with > routers and proxies as well. Thank you very much for the reply. 1. I have been very careful to avoid including blank spaces during the copy-and-paste procedure and have made sure any errant spaces were deleted, if they appeared. 2. I am not using ZoneAlarm, nor does my anti-virus software have its firewall enabled. (I even tried connecting with the AV turned off, just to make sure it was not the culprit.) 3. I am using a different router than the one that was in use while participating in the BOINC Beta test. The previous one failed and had to be repalced. However, I have moved five of my SETI@home/BOINC Beta machines over to Folding@home and they are not having any difficulty swapping out work units through the new router. I have just checked the logs and settings on the router and see that no sites or services are set to be blocked, so I don't think the router is the problem. 4. It may very well be that the occasions I have tried to connect are times when the server is either unavailable or there are too many other machines trying to connect. When I get a chance I'll try another machine in my farm and also one other machine I have access to that is at an entirely different location, to see if I have better success. This is a bit fustrating and perplexing. |

Been online over an hour already. I confirmed, repeatedly, the acct. ID and URL, made sure there are no spaces in either, checked for spelling errors, etc. and still cannot connect to download any data. Help!!! |

Help!!! > I believe I have solved my problem, although my first test after the fix was with Folding@home and I am now crunching a Folding unit on the problem machine. It seems that even though ZoneAlarm was turned off, it was still blocking the previously unauthorized programs of SETI@home BOINC and Folding@home. After restarting ZoneAlarm and then running F@H, ZA asked if the program could access the internet, I allowed it and bingo, it worked. I'll try S@H after this folding unit completes. Perhaps your problem is similar and, if not directly related to ZoneAlarm, may be related to another firewall program, like the one included with Windows XP. |

I use SETI@Home at work. I have tried to attach to the project daily for the past week. I've tried everything offered in this thread, but I still can not get attached. I'm afraid that this is due to the Proxy Server, which I have no control over (and don't even understand in the first place). Unless somebody can suggest settings or options I'm most likely not going to be able to participate any more. Oh well... Thanks in advance for any help. |

Thanks in advance for any help. > Your office computer system should have a firewall that will prevent you from accessing S@H and S@H from accessing your work computer. Unless you can obtain permission to run SETI@home on your office computer, you're probably out of luck. |
