@Paul Z

It seems most are bashing you. You seem to be applying alot of effort in pushing you views on others. I applaud the application of the Effort. Here's some Fatherly advice. Redirect the effort to an education that will allow you to get a job. If you already have an education, then apply that kind of effort to getting and keeping a job. This will help you by:

1) allowing you to pay taxes so that you can have the right to bitch about the US tax system.

2) Afford you the cash to buy a real computer. this will allow you to crunch seti and then you can be here as well.

If you can't afford an eduction, then join the Military and Uncle sam will help you get one. This would also give you the right to bitch about the military.

Now get on with your life son, and move out of the basement.

In fear of a mauling :

Ian,
No fear here from Mauling.

I don't think anyone should be told to shut up or discouraged from speaking. By virtue of one's existence one has the right to speak one's mind no further need to earn it. No question!

* Ian,
We do not have a problem with his right to speak. What we have a problem with is the repetative nature of his posts, and the "No Right Of Rebuttal". Everybody has the right to speak their mind, ("Their" Mind, not the continual thoughts of others),however there are forums designed just to meet Paul's agenda. You crunch here, you participate here. This has been long coming Ian, Paul has been afforded an oppurtunity to recieve a compatable OS enabling him to crunch. But he declined. These forums were designed and created for the benifit of those that participate in the project.
Whereas Paul "May" be crunching for classic, they in turn have their own boards.
Paul has already stated most clearly, his hate for President Bush and the Republican Administration, and the "lies" of war. He has more than covered everyones articles that reinterate his points continously. We are at a point of "been there..Done That"
None of us need to be reminded that we put our pants on, one leg at a time, so why must we be reminded of someones rantings daily.
Bottom line:
Post "your" opinion....accept rebuttal....move on..

Very Respectfully,

Rocky

You are missing the point. Nobody is saying he should remain quiet. What have asked him over and over and over is to stop posting the same dribble time after time. It does not matter if what he posts is from a NEW source. The content of the post is the same.

No matter how many times you kick a dead horse or how you kick a dead horse it is still dead.

Furthermore he refuses to enter into a valid debate when his opinions are challenged. He either redicules the person posting the opposing opinion or make a claim that what he posts is not his opinion at all.

If he is posting for the sake of posting he is spamming and I get enough of that crap in my email without getting it here in the forum.

I'm probably the exception to the rule.

Is it fair of me to post in Einstein? Yes, because when SETI/BOINC is down and I'm out of work (or once I reach my 5,000 credit goal) I'll be primarily an Einstein/BOINC user. Is it fair for me to post in BURP? No, because I haven't gotten a workunit. I've only made one "Hey I'm UotD!" post, and until I get a frame to work on, it'll stay at 1.

As for SETI/Classic, I've crunched 25 units, but I've stopped. Should I now be allowed to post because once upon a time I crunched Classic? I don't think so. Even so, I stil think I've earned the privilege to post there because I participated. That's more than what I can say for Paul here. He makes Guido and you-know-who look good because they were active crunchers!

Like I said, I might be the exception to the rule of free speech, but this isn't an open forum - This is the SETI/BOINC Café. If you wanna post in a public forum, go join a newsgroup.

As I see it, this is NOT a 'free speech' issue. This is an issue of 'access priviledges'. Zimmerman has the 'right' to speak his mind in public areas and in areas that he owns and/or controls. He does NOT have the right to do so in private areas. Zimmerman does not have the right to, for instance, enter someone else's house or apartment without permission even if he wants to 'tell them something'.

Consider a bar that has a 'cover charge' for entry. One is not supposed to enter without paying the cover charge, even IF one just wants to speak to someone else inside. That is the situtation here. These forums are for the use of people crunching the BOINC/Seti@Home project. Zimmerman has refused to pay the 'cover charge', claiming he is unable to do so. Zimmerman has snuck in anyway. He has been handed the means to pay the 'cover charge', yet absolutely refuses. It does not matter that he has paid the 'cover charge' at a bar next door (Seti@Home Classic). He needs to pay it HERE.

Again, this is NOT a free-speach issue. Zimmerman absolutely HAS the right to say whatever he wishes at his house or in public areas. He has to EARN the priviledge to say it here. He must pay his dues here.

Ok guys. I read some of his material and it is repetitive drum beating mind numbing politices with no added value, per se, from him. Fine I agree. But he has an account here so he must have "paid" to get in and therefore has he not got the right to post as you all described it. Perhaps the answer is to filter him out and then none of you would not see him....and I guess from what you all say you won't miss him too much either.

Just because I signed up doesn't mean I can do whatever the hell I want. If that's the case then I'll sign up at Climate, LHC, Folding, and a few other projects, and piss everyone off without ever crunching or registering a CPU.

LOL! Yeah I think I agree now. I may say a few contentious things sometimes and I get a few things half-cocked too on occasions......but I guess I have a much better post/credit ratio and I'm actually joining in; so I understand the "Right" issue better now. I take ya point.

I don't 'buy into' their argument that the message content suddenly will become more palatable to them if I am using different software........

I crunch Seti, ....someday I will use boinc software to do that..... in the meantime, I care not a whit what the self righteous consider as their exclusive domain.... or their justification to control who can post what here....

The problem with Grizzly Zimmerframe is that even if you do filter him out, he still dominates the political threads because 90% of the posts are replies to him.

Even though I agree with a lot of his opinions, his confrontational, obnoxious stuck record attitude has annoyed me so much he is in my idiot list.

Again, Pauly-poo, you fail to address the points made here. Yes, you have contributed to "Classic". Not much, but that you have contributed there is not at issue.

What about NA's point (seconded by Tigher, Rocky and many others) that you are not crunching here?

What about 5 and 1/2 of 13's point (also agreed to by many here) that you are a "confrontational, obnoxious stuck record"?

But the post I am responding to right now brings up one of my little problems that you have: you don't respond to direct questions or requests. You pick and choose what you will respond to and even deny holding the opinions expressed in the repetitive links you include.

So, to sum up, you do not contribute to BOINC, yet you abuse these message boards, alienating even those who agree with your basic political stand. You accomplish nothing, for the folks who agree with you would feel the same even without your posts; and those who do not agree can easily dismiss you as a crackpot based on your worthless rhetorical style.

Back to something a bit more 'on topic'...

Reports say 'Deep Throat' (Woodward & Bernstein's source during Watergate, NOT the pr0n movie) has finally come forward. Looks like I was wrong (I always thought it was Kissinger). Reports say it was W. Mark Felt (#2 person at the FBI back then).

Anyone have any comment?

I would like to hear Woodward confirm this before giving this man credit for something that turned out to be one of the most important political moves of the 20th century. Usually, leaked information isn't worth much and is often dishonorable, but in this case, there was no national security being compromised and the information attributed to "Deep Throat" helped to put right one of the darker episodes of national politics this country has ever seen.

'Deep Throat'

I seem to remember Woodward (or some PR guy) mentioning that Deep Throat was in ill health not too long ago (month? weeks?) and that (as per Deep Throat's request) he/she/it would be identified soon thereafter.

Is Felt still alive?
