Because of the change to boinc I also wanted to change from seti@home classic to boinc. So I compiled boinc for debian linux on my imac. Well! But now everytime I contact the seti-server (same with climateprediction.net) i get the massage: "Message from server: platform 'powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu' not found" What can I do? |

follow the instructions here to tell boinc which seti client you wish to use, in your case you'll likely need to compile your own: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/anonymous_platform.php |

I've already compiled boinc. But app_info.xml is a good hint. Maybe I'm dumb, but what have I to write instead of "setiathome_4.07_windows_intelx86.exe" in this file? |

Hi, Yes, the app_info file is the key; you will need to create/edit an app_info.xml file to get this to work. If you use the example app_info.xml file from link in the previous post you would change the two occurrences of the string "setiathome_4.07_windows_intelx86.exe" to be whatever your seti client executable file is; e.g., in your case maybe something like "setiathome_4.07_powerpc-linux-gnu"--whatever name seti client executable has. Note that the version string you see in the app_info.xml file doesn't seem to matter much but should probably be set to "407". Anyway, the app_info.xml file needs to go into the seti@home "project" directory "setiathome.berkeley.edu" (.../boinc/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/app_info.xml) You will also need to make sure that the seti executable file, the one mentioned in the app_info.xml file, is located in that SAME directory; i.e., the same place as the app_info.xml file: again (.../projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/). Remember to make the seti client file read+execute for the user running boinc. I hope this helps... |
