Ok - BOINC now working - even have results - Yippee. When the screen saver runs I get a message "Secure Windows Desktop Detected - This configuration is currently not supported" I had the screen saver working before but recently fragged the computer and had to reload everything. Obviously something is different, but I can't find what it is. I can find no reference to a "Secure Desktop" anywhere in Windows literature Running Windows XP home edition. |

I can find you a registry hack you can try. Look at option 27 on http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm ---------------------- Jordâ„¢ |

One of the members of SETI Tech Desk had the same problem... I pointed him in the right direction and he figured it out: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SETI_techdesk/message/1154 From: "gardenguy1955" Date: Mon Jul 5, 2004 5:18 pm Subject: Re: Secure windows desktop Thanks for the hint. It was actually the sceen set to blank value set to 0 that was causing the problem. I found that enroute to checking for a password. When I changed the value to a positive #, the "problem" went away. |

The other suggestion about a registry fix didn't seem to help, either. |

I don't have my screen saver set with a password. I'm running XP Home edition. The bad part is that I know that it is some kind of setting because when I first downloaded BOINC seti at home version -- the screen saver worked. I had to recover my main drive and ever since then it hasn't worked. I have tried all the fixes listed in this thread. made sure that screen saver is not set to Zero on both "properties" of the screen saver and on the control panel setting. There is no password required and I also used the "register" fix supplied. None of these work. |

If you don't know, you can download "OpenGL Extensions Viewer" at this location. It will allow you to see if you can run OpenGL applications. Greetings from Belgium. |

If it worked when you first installed it, and then you recovered, you messed up something that you had installed since that backup the restore used. ~David |

I did have a password set on my user account and when I took that off, I still got the "secure desktop" message. But then I noticed that even without a password on my user account, when the screen saver was activated and then I used the mouse or keyboard, instead of immediately returning to whatever was on the screen before, XP returned to the "welcome" screen and I had to click on my user account, although no password was required. Apparently, this is considered the "secure desktop." To get rid of this, right-click on your desktop and choose Properties from the pop-up menu, and in the "Display Properties" window that opens, click on the Screen Saver tab. If your version of XP is like mine, you'll see a checkbox labeled "On resume, display Welcome screen." Uncheck this box and click OK, and the next time the screen saver activates you should see the graphics. This worked for me; I hope it's the solution for you, too! |

I noticed the same thing -- and turned off the "return to" feature. this did not help - either. I think the next thing I will do is reload boinc. |

Now getting a new message - "app will not display graphics" I guess this is progress. |

Even more interesting. Did not yet resort to reloading the software. Haven't done any new changes since the last unsuccessful ones. Guess what? |
