>>My last full-time job was while I was in college, at college: $5.15/hr, 20hrs/wk >Hate to break the news to you, but 20 hours a week is NOT full-time employment, that's considered half. However, if you DO decide to get a real job, you'll find that you will often put in more than 40 hours in one week. If you'd bothered to quote properly, as in "$5.15/hr, 20 hrs/wk (NYS limitation)", you wouldn't have to remove your foot from your mouth. New York State limits the number of hours that a full-time student can work at a full-time job. >>Civil service pays quite nicely (My mailman gets $22.50/hr + union + benefits, and he's been working about 5 years now), so cut the crap. >I am neither a mailman, nor do I work for the federal government. I am a state employee. So instead of telling others they are full of crap, why don't you get a REAL job instead of complaining like you are the only person in the world with problems. I don't care what you do for a living, how you voted in the election, or which hand you use - I really couldn't care less. I'm only stating past employment, pointing out that others who are employed by SUNY are earning less than poverty, and what my mailman earns. "Cut the crap" was in reference to the blame-game going around: "You're wrong", "No, you're wrong", "No, you're all wrong", etc.. I didn't say you were full of shit or have a "fake" job. If you interpreted it that way, then it's your own illusion that you chose to make. Chill out. Relax. Have beer or something. Whatever it is that you do to cool off, do it. I didn't attack you, so don't dump your shit on me. |

For background I am also a State employee. > You're flipping burgers because you want to, no one is forcing you to be > there. > You see, I live in the real world, and it's been kicking my ass. I simply > refuse to give up and submit myself to the slavery of welfare like many of > you. It's called pride and I WOULD rather die than be dependent on someone > else for my existence. > You need to read all of my post and not just what you feel you can inadequately argue. I am not living on welfare. I am living off what I have earned and saved. I also stated that *IF* I continued like this then all I would have to look forward to was Social Security. I did not say that I WOULD continue like this. Not that it is any of your business, but I have a whole set of laws that say I HAVE to continue earning what I have earned in the past. It should please you to learn I won't be flipping burgers anytime soon. I can not be certain that you will grow old someday, but should you, you will realize that age is a factor in getting a job regardless of your profession and regardless of the law. Once again, not that it is any of your business, when I am working I make more in one month then you do in two years, so I can afford to wait for my "dream job". For you see, I have diversified my portfolio and I have invested in my future. Unlike you I have not wasted the education I have received. Remember, the next time you hit that "Post reply" button that somewhere along the line the TCP/IP packet that will be sent probably has gone through several peices of network equipment I configured. Please don't take any further lack of response on my part to your rantings as you winning this argument. It simply means that I don't have the time or inclination to argue with a future recipient of a Darwin Award.. I'll be in my kitchen flipping the burger I am having for dinner... I'd rather speak my mind because it hurts too much to bite my tongue. American Spirit BBQ Proudly Serving those that courageously defend freedom. |

Imagine those that think the government owes them something are the same ones who think money makes the world go round. You see, Einstein, I help the "less fortunate" in my community. It's the entire purpose of government housing, and that make me feel MUCH better than making 50k a year. Maybe if you weren't so shallow you wouldn't be so selfish? |

What amazes me is a government employee who thinks because he works on public housing he's giving back to his community.. Please note that your measly paycheck is signed by a government official, is drawn against public funds, and paid for by the public who pays taxes.. To give you a clue.. The very people you have complained about throughout this thread are the very people whose homes you work on.. Imagine that!!! I wonder how they would feel if they knew the guy fixing their home despises them.. I, on the other hand, have spent a great deal of my life as a VOLUNTEER Paramedic. I wasn't paid to saves lives and I did without regard to race, sex, nationality or social standing. So I guess I have to ask which one of us is [b]selfish??? Greetings All, I guess I fall into the category of Brainsmashers way of thinking..I am one lazy MF. I am an educated man with an advanced degree, who has worked since age 14. For the last 10 years that I was employed I payed the maximum contribution into Social Security. That same system that I depend on today to survive, yes survive. I am on disbility, not by choice but because of a relatively unknown medical condition that was inherited, and did not even have a name until 1997. I became unable to work in 1995. I spent most of 1995, and 1996 hospitalized. I had medical and life insurance through my employer, but when I reached 1 million in payout, my policy cancelled. That was before the end of 1995. My disability was not approved until march of 1996. I was almost 1 year without income other that my wife's income, and because of her varied hours she could only hold down 1 job. She was always on call. She made enough for food, gas and few bills. Everything that we had worked our whole lives for we lost. Our home was foreclosed on, we lost both of our vehicles. We had a "Block sale" to sell our personal belongings to tie us over in hotel rooms. If it had not been for the fact of my wife working for a hotel chain, we would not have been able to afford that.We had 2 children still at home depending on us at the time. Finally Medicaid came through and picked up my medicines expenses and my hospital expenses. We lived in hotel rooms for almost 1 year before my first Disability check. Our first check was large enough for my wife to rent us an apartment while I was hospitalized, and slowly we started trying to pull our lives back together. It wasn't long though that Medicaid stopped and Medicare took over. As we all know, Medicare only payes 80percent and no medicines. So here my wife and I are 8 years later. We have accrued 978,765.13 Dollars that we presently owe to the hospital and Doctors for my care, because now I make to much in Disability to recieve Medicaid again. So back to square 1. Do you know what almost 1 million in judgements does to your credit rating? Now we live almost paycheck to paycheck with my daughters helping all they can, because I have monthly Medicine expenses in excess of 1300.00 alone, plus the normal bills and rent to live. We live in a first floor Apartment, nothing fancy, and we have one vehicle now. A 1991 pontiac Grand Am, with 189540 miles on it.. I do volunteer counseling now, and sing as often as I can as my health permits. But you know something, we have lost our home, cars,(including my race car), our boat, all our personal belongings, but because of the programs that others are bashing here we held on to the most important thing, We Held On To Our Family! Very Respectfully, Rocky Cudd www.boincsynergy.com |

Too many folks think nothing will ever happen to them, that problems are what those other people have. Hopefully, sharing your story will cause some deep reflection on the plights that can befall any of us at any time. I wish you well pz |

Imagine those that think the government owes them something are the same ones who think money makes the world go round. Government is instituted amongst People to secure their Rights, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed. It is not a security blanket or an excuse for inaction by the individual. ...I help the "less fortunate" in my community. It's the entire purpose of government housing, and that make me feel MUCH better than making 50k a year. Good for you! I wish you well. Can we now end the bickering and get back to the topic? |

I take Pictures for training our local rescue squad, Hell I even make avatars for free. I give till it hurts. I receive my Social Security Insurance and Medicaid because I paid for it; I also had the foresight to have disability insurance which deducts my SSI from their payments to me. Because of that I am still living below the poverty standard. My 75yr old mother still has to have a date book for her schedule, she coordinates the local Red Cross Blood bank every 6-8 weeks, RSVP, Church Blood Bank, Licking and stuffing for local charities, envelopes, taking care of the great grand kids, Hell she even takes care of me from time to time. I can go on and on about Mom not to mention My 77yr old Dad, who still puts in a 40 hr work week, Plus Volunteers for the Fire Department as my Grandfather and His father did before him, None of us would dream of taking money to help our fellow citizens. They are the example to follow. Brains Masher, if you’re playing a game here with the line of remarks you make. Please stop, play the game somewhere besides here. If you really mean all that you say please get some Psychological help, yore view of real life is warped. Did something happen to you as a child? Either way quit your job, utilize your education for something good and thank the powers to be you were lucky enough to go to college…. |

Hey, Brainsmashed, Bob Cratchette's employer has got nothing on you. Perhaps a conversation about reducing the surplus population would be more to your liking. Account frozen... |

It has come to my attention that your organization has begun running an advertising campaign to promote President George W. Bush's plan to privatize Social Security and cut benefits. Â The advertisements that are currently being aired feature President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his signing of the original Social Security legislation. Â I find the use of my grandfather's image and legacy in your campaign to be highly inappropriate. Â Â For seventy years, Social Security has been the bedrock of retirement security for millions of Americans thanks to the efforts of President Roosevelt. Â My grandfather would surely oppose the ideas now being promoted by this administration and your organization. Â Not only that, Â but to compare the courage it took to provide a guaranteed insurance program for our seniors and the disabled to the courage it will take to dismantle the most successful social program in history is simply unconscionable. Â We should be working to protect and promote Social Security, not cutting benefits for our seniors. On behalf of my family, I would ask that you cease using my grandfather's image in your advertising campaign. Â Respectfully, James Roosevelt Jr. . |

Which one of us is more selfish? That would be the one without a job because he's to "good" for anything less than his dream job even though he just admitted to having other skills. And last time I checked, much like Social Security, government housing doesn't make enough money to support itself, much less it's employees. In fact, there is a limit to the amount of money we can accept from the tenants, so they get to break windows for free, or rather, at the expense of the WORKING man. Imagine a liberal without a job not having a clue about money. >I am on disbility, not by choice but because of a relatively unknown medical >condition that was inherited, and did not even have a name until 1997. I do not have a problem supporting those who are actually handicapped >I am disabled, I volunteer for the local Fire Department doing whatever I can Handicapped AND working. I'm not the individual you need to be preaching to. You need to share you story with other qualified individuals, like yourslef, but unlike you, feel they are to good for jsut any old job. Hell, flipping burgers is better than sitting on the couch all day. >Perhaps a conversation about reducing the surplus population would be >more to your liking. Typical liberal response. Since I don't willingly support social aid, I MUST be in favor of genocide. That is the very reason folks like me don't care about what you think. If you recall, we broke records reelecting President Bush and that says a lot about how the majority of Americans feel. . |

You seem to exude that type of thought process. As for the "majority of Americans", the majority of that majority is from other countries.
