Any idea when OpenCl's app passes on Seti?
It seems stable

Message 55943 - Posted: 15 Jan 2016, 10:02:17 UTC - in response to Message 55940.

I doubt this could be the problem, but I did notice that when I turned on the monitor, my AV program was trying to access the internet and the MS firewall was waiting for me to approve it and naturally MS wanted me to update to Windows10, which I quickly exited.
What d' ya think?

Sounds a lot like the high DPC latency events I used to get with old Intel Chipset Drivers, and bad Wifi ones, but also (separately) like how my machine (Win7 x64 Pro) behaved after some Windows updates that injected a bunch of services.

For probing, What I would do is go into the system services (start->Run->services.msc), and first disable any unused nVidia services that might be using the network, Then treating the system as if it were Windows 10 (even though it isn't), manually disable the services that look like:Diagnostic* (about four of them on my Win7x64). After that run spybot-antibeacon from the spybot search and destroy website. You get fewer displayed options on Win7 with the tool, but the ones that appear are relevant. What happened is some Windows updates (even on Win7x64) appear to have been backported right back to Win7, and some of the peer to peer and phone home malware creates strange behaviour.

I'd be surprised if you saw no difference at all in the system after that.

Will do Jason. I'll get to it tonight when I get home from work. Thanks!

I would like to try this, but there is no way to download the antibeacon software. You'll be redirected to an obscure "box"-type download site, which in no way allows to download the standalone or portable app. :?

I have the same but don't consider it a problem.

I do...'cause I donated my CPU power to WCG!

GPUs are only thing that's powering SETi@home...got to keep them busy!
so using a complete core is inconvenience for me...

so I'm asking why is it that _sah jobs use almost a complete core?!
especially when other jobs use 5-10% of CPUs...

[Try: https://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=55] Edit: Weird, something changed there, wait up while I figure out what theyre doing

Try: https://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=55

That's exactly the site i'm trying. The download link leads to a box-type side which won't allow me to download. I even disabled Adblock and Request Policy in Firefox, but still no way, it would let me download the file...

Looks like the download mirrors they use are flooded and blocking downloads.
Try MajorGeeks (seems to be working for me, and reputable):

Thank you!
That download works, but unfortunately it is the install version. I want to keep my system clean and therefore prefer standalone or portable applications. I'll wait, 'til the servers have more headroom.

Hey KLiK,

Raistmer stated that you can use the -use_sleep command in the commandline text file to decrease the amount of CPU that is used by the OpenCL. I've tried it and it reduces significantly the amount of CPU that each work unit requires. However, there is a trade off of how long it takes to complete the work unit. It does prolong the time to complete just as much.

Guys, why is openCL_nVIDIA_sah jobs using about 80-90% of CPUs?!
;)

Cause nVidia decided to use busy-wait loops in their OpenCL implementation everywhere.
AMD uses them too (as was discovered by SoG path) but starting from some initial "free from busy-loop" interval. NV lacks of such interval and also runs that busy-wait loop on higher priority than AMD does. Both these factors constitute observable difference in OpenCL MB behavior on devices from these vendors.
Intel implemented third type of device synching in their OpenCL runtime to that workaround was developed that allows considerably reduce CPU time almost w/o GPU load sacrifice.

can _sah jobs be un-selected, only to include cudaXX jobs on nVidia?!

I imagine you could if you create an app_info file and only list the cuda apps.

But you would have to carefully watch cuda revision and change accordingly.

Well you computer has not contacted the project for 9 days. So hasn't asked for any work.

You haven't set it to "No New Task" by mistake?

Go here and you can get it with no problems. I installed it and ran it. Seems to be working great.

Good evening all for me beta is running just fine(cpu and gpu) my gpu is handling everything that comes in with no errors or any other problems and 8.04 is doing just as well on my dual core. Just 1 other thing v8.01 for android is running faster than v7 at least on my phone just wondering if anybody else has noticed this. And also the run times and estimated times for the gpu units have fallen in line on my system the first runs were way off but has settled down now.

Yes, it's usual and recommended to use -use_sleep for AstroPulse nVIDIA OpenCL app at SETI-Main (also).

nVIDIA added a bug to their drivers, that a whole CPU-thread is used if you let run OpenCL apps (1 app/1 CPU-thread).

Intel iGPU and AMD/ATI drivers haven't this OpenCL bug.

If you use (add) -use_sleep (maybe also -hp (for higher priority)) in (ap/mb (mb=MultiBeam=SETI)) *_cmdline_*.txt file (e.g. ap_cmdline_win_x86_SSE2_OpenCL_NV.txt at SETI-Main), it will reduce the CPU time a lot.

AFAIK, the nVIDIA OpenCL and CUDA apps are currently just for SETI-Beta, right?

Unfortunately they are used also at SETI-Main...

Have a look at the top hosts list of SETI-Main, you'll find one or the other.
