First four returned with 30 spikes.
A computer program will always do what you tell it to do, but rarely what you want it to do.

Could be an antivirus issue. "Rising" antivirus reports everything compiled under MinGW32 to be "Generic Malware"

I've had problems with Avast sometimes, but my test machine copy has let it through (Windows XP). If it fails, disabling shields for 10 minutes and re-trying the work fetch is usually enough.

I use avast also, I exclude the location where the Boinc files reside at, then Avast and Boinc get along fine.

It's now under Active Protection in Avast, click there, then under Exclusions, then add the folders that you want excluded from being scanned and you're done.

That's definitely wrong state.
Either embedded benchmark screwed and can't be count as representative to function speed or we get wrong machine instructions from SIMD intrinsics in case of x64 build.
Combined with precision issues I would recommend to check x64 build disassembly.

Yes, it can affect total run times, but FOLDING function doesn't contain FFTW calls still experienced 2 times difference of speed inside benchmark !

I don't see a significant difference in either disassembly. The interleaved non-sse code is the different, but the sse code is virtually identical.

The timers compiled for each report nearly identical results on the same machine.

I may have an idea... The x86_64 code was compiled with -mfp-math=sse whereas the i686 code uses x87 math. That could mean that non-SIMD math is bumping into SIMD math causing more spills and leaving fewer FP registers available.

I have no evidence for this, and it's not apparent from the disassembly. I suppose I could compile for both and see if there is a difference.

I had quite a few of both Linux flavors run overnight, with similar performance differences to those I originally reported. If it will help, here are the folding timings from the last 5 completed tasks for each, all with exactly the same AR of 2.724696. The results seem to be fairly consistent.

Good! Results consistence leaves out just random fluctuation with let say context switches exactly while benchmark goes and so on.
The difference is real.

Another function we currently hunting for is vChirp and its derivatives.
Good to get statistics on it how often and what kind get selection on particular host x86 vs x64.
vChirp can lead not only to speed variation but to inconclusives as well.
