Is there only v8 work now, or is v7 still being sent out as well?

Can't find MBv8 splitter there BTW.

v7 and AP are off - good! No need to waste resources on those for now.

It's not the FLOPs or APR that bothers me.

I'm bothered that I had that overflow task and it seems it got included in all those estimate calculations. No matter how bad CreditNew is including tasks with abnormal runtime can't make it any better.

I don't usually pay any attention to things like this so I don't really now if this is how everything works normally.

It shows 4100 tasks available for v8, but my box is asking and being told no tasks available.

Something is wrong with the stats page. We haven't generated 4000 results for v8, and v7 result generation should still be on. Hmmmmmm.

Windows client for v8 should be released tomorrow morning.

Oh yeah, I forgot there was no v8 app for Windows yet.

Will v7 e going away? Will v8 be able to crunch data from all sources? Or will v7 stick around, in parallel?

Bump.

To be clear, this is not a question for what work will be issued here on beta. This is a roadmap question. Is v8 replacing v7? Or will both need to run in parallel?

8 will be completely replacing 7, once we have all the appropriate app versions in place (i.e. GPU/optimized version). We'll probably continue using v7 on Arecibo workunits until the GPU versions are available, but we won't ever use v7 on GBT or Parkes workunits.

PS. The priority of v7 workunits (i.e. the share of the scheduler queue) will also be going down tomorrow.

LoL, state page shows betterview than reality has.

I would strongly recommend to disable v7 work generation at least after Windows app deployment.

Besides usual arguments about being green and not waste energy for nothing there is another consideration: v8 deployed in opt-in mode here. That is user needs to manually switch it ON. For that he has pay attention to what is going on on beta. And to disrupt constant work flow is one of finest ways to attract cruncher's attention :D

Windows app is up and running with GBT data. CPU app only, with working graphics, FFTW 3-3-4.

Main app is a stonking 55 MB download - lots of debug material, I'd guess, but watch out if you're on a restricted download circuit.

Thanks for the info Richard

Edit..

First 8 are processing.. my estimate is just over 2 hours on my i7 Chip.

I'll test later with an AMD 8 Core once I know they validate on the Intel first

Nice to see the graphics again.

First 20 work units on i7 (3.75Ghz) coming in between 1 hr 4 min fastest -1 hr 15 min slowest when No GPU work load on board

With view graphics, GPU utilization between 12-25%

Once the GPUs are added to the mix, under full load, the times increased by ~12-14 minutes so now quickest is 1 hr 15min, slowest 1 hr, 27 minutes

AMD 8 core (4.42GhZ) is running 2 hours 25 minutes (fastest was 2 hours but all the rest have been closer to 2 hr 27 minutes) average with no GPU work units on board.

With view Graphics, GPU utilization is averaging 19%

All work units have VLAR at the end of their names

On my machine (i5-based Windows 10), boinc stopped suddenly. I erased BOINC programs and all the data, and reinstalled BOINC. Now it crunches astropulse only in 3 threads with 1 thread vacant.

Now BOINC manager cannot connect to BOINC client and I don't know what's going on ;(

Is it because it's windows 10?

I tried to run seti@home 7.99 in the command prompt windows w/o arguments, it froze. No action, no cpu usage in the task manager, doesn't stop with ctrl+c. hmmm Windows is difficult :)

I guess I'll need to put a Windows 10 system together for testing. I wouldn't expect it to have a problem with a command line executable like the setiathome app.

Just a moment!

It was because seti@home 7.99 was so big. After some reboots, it grew bigger and now it's running!

Please Eric, don't mind Windows 10. I just wonder why BOINC manager also froze during downloading.

But who is to blame? Me? No. I noticed actually BOINC had completely frozen for longer than 2 hours. BOINC client? It stopped during downloading seti@home v8 client and didn't accept BOINC manager connection. I guess maybe it needs attention with Windows 10, not seti/astropulse clients.

I wrote an email to you.

Self reply.

I tried to install BOINC on another Windows 10 machine and it went smoothly! So I AM TO BLAME!! Then why BOINC client failed to download seti@home v8 client for longer than 2 hours and rejected connection to BOINC manager?

hmm.....

Sorry...
