Thank you for visiting the homepage for one of CJSW's best radio shows, Attention Surplus Disorder. CJSW is the University of Calgary's campus and community radio station. They broadcast on Real Audio too, which you can access from their homepage (hit link above).
Attention Surplus Disorder is a specialty program on CJSW which is primarily dedicated to promoting progressive music in all its forms, with a main focus on progressive rock and genres closely associated with it, such as jazz fusion, psychedelia, and even progressive folk! The show began in the year 2000 and Richard Z has kept it going almost single-handedly since about 2002. As inactive as the website looks, the show has been able to attract quite a following in Calgary, much to the delight of the small community of prog fans in the city. We broadcast on alternating Saturday nights (technically Sunday mornings, actaully) from 12:00 a.m. until 3:00 a.m. local time, which is North American Mountain time (add two hours if you live in the Eastern time zone, for example). As the name of the show might suggest, we welcome listeners with an open mind and a taste for the more challenging aspects of rock music.
The purpose of this website is to provide a way for prospective listeners to decide if Attention Surplus Disorder is the type of radio show for them. How do we intend to help you decide? Well, we'll offer some biographical information on the programmers behind the show, and whatever else we can think of to give you an idea of the kind of show we're doing.
We are interested in promoting our favourite type of music to the general population of Calgary. It is hoped that people interested in progressive rock in the Calgary area will come into contact with us and help us in the establishment of a progressive rock "community" within the city. In a city known for its "Cowboy" image, progressive rock fans may be hard to find, but we're certainly optimistic that they're out there. If you want to get in touch with us, by all means, send us an e-mail. Contact links will be put in the biography section.
We have been contacted by a few artists in reference to our show! We welcome such correspondence, so if you want to let us know about your band, or if you want to submit something for possible broadcast, or if you just want to talk to some fans of progressive rock then let us know! Artists we've been fortunate to hear from can be found on our Artist Feedback page.
