2005-02-13 Ventana Wilderness Preserve (near Big Sur)

Sarah and I (and Huck) finally got out camping after a semester hiatus resulting from the onset of grad/law school. We've been overworked, but given that we have several more years of this, it's high time that we set ourselves a baseline of relaxation, and this trip was part of that. Since Andrew Molera Regional preserve recently closed its doors to dogs, we took the only hike in the Big Sur region available to us, leaving from Pfeiffer State Park on an inland trail.

During the hike, we crossed into the Ventana Wilderness Area, and camped about 5 miles in. It was a relaxing, albeit damp trip. Luckily we'd brought candles, with whose wax we were able to set some musty logs afire. Huck had a relaxing time, finding little to chase. We tried to interest him in some banana slugs, but they bored him. The fog made for some terrific pictures!
