| Big Basin is a state park 2 hours south of SF where we go to camp, hike, and see redwoods. This was maybe the 3rd or 4th time we'd been there--Sarah and I both have a tendency to visit the same place over and over again. Whether this is because we enjoy getting to know a place well, or because we are too lazy to come up with something new... well, I'd claim the former, but the latter is probably more accurate. Anyway, this time we secured a reservation at a campsite a 7 mile hike from the trailhead, and got our start at a fashionably late 3:30. More than being par for the course, this was actually earlier than normal for us, and after our first escapade involving a 3 mile hike by indiglo watch-light, we have mended our ways and purchased flashlights. The last quarter of our hike was by flashlight this time, and this was unfortunately the part with the waterfalls, but we came back in the morning to get the pictures. This trip also saw the much-anticipated inaugeration of two glorious pieces of equipment: the water filter, and the propane stove. Somehow, though, our matches evaded making the hike with us, so we what any true pioneer would have done--we borrowed some. The next morning we got an early start, snapped some quick pictures, and galloped back to the car in record time so we wouldn't miss seeing the playoffs. | |||||
