I had a binder that had all of my folk music with their guitar chords in it. I was in my 20's when I put this binder together. I sang and strummed that music for years. I haven't touched my guitar in at least 35 years. Suddenly a few months ago, I looked at it and went to look for my binder of music. God knows what happened to it. But in my usual persistence, I went onto the webb and my search was happily completed. Your mom's songs and chords were my songschords. So this "older" lady who needs to move her fingers again, thanks you.

love your page, using many of the songs. I have been trying(with no luck)to figure out the chords to a David Ball song, "whenever you come back to me" it's a very pretty song and I would love to be able to play it. If you or a reader knows this one or can figure it out I would be eternally grateful. It could be emailed to me or I will check here occasionally. Thanks is advance. Ben

I teach guitar to many ages, and to sub-cultures that are not heavily electric or metallic... :o It is truly refreshing to find reasonable songs that are within the memory of parents or students, and are within reach of more novice guitarists. Many thanks for your dedication and work. Blessings to you and your family -jim

Thank you so very much for all your wonderful work. I was in the process of selecting songs for a campfire next week at the Lake county Metroparks and came upon your site searcing for John Denver songs. You have saved me millions of hours because all the songs I had in mind are on your site and they are in the chord sequences I am very familiar with. You are a genius and a very humanitarian person for doing all this wonderful work. "Music Soothes the Soul."

Got my 1st guitar @13, and am really a "dime-a-dozen" rythem guitar player, but have entertained family and friends for years. Just got a banjo and am learning that; but I did print out several songs to add to my repretoir of about 250-300 guitar songs. Good luck with your little family.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. I am from a generation before you, but I know all these songs from hearing my children at the hootenanys years ago. The chords work just fine for autoharp and other instruments, and best of all is your transpostion feature. Thanks again!

This is a wonderful resource for those of us who enjoy singing and have basic guitar skills, but not the ear to figure out the chords on our own! I haven't gone through the whole thing yet, but I did notice "900 miles" has no author attributed. It was written by Woody Guthrie.

Hi Aaron! What a great page! Thank you so much for choosing so many great songs and the transposer is fabulous, especially for lower-voiced folks like me (who are also on the lazy side in transposing ourselves!) I was just given a guitar by someone who knew I'd missed playing for the last 25 or so years, and am loving the great tunes on your site. Thank you again and so many best wishes to you and Sarah and your new family!

Hey Aaron, I just came across your guitar pages. I really like the tunes that you picked. Many of them are what I grew up listening to as a teen and beyond -- you and your mom have good taste :-). The chord structure is great -- not too complicated yet complements the songs. I've been banging around on the guitar for a long time and still can't play real well. These tunes (with the chording) you've put together make me feel that I can play not too bad :-) Thanks for that. Keep the site going Aaron. It's a happy place. All the best, dave

Dear Sir, MY NAME IS Mr.Zeou Walele. Iam the head of Operations cemac Bank of africa plc.Sometime in 1996, a certain man Mr.kelly smith brought a luggage marked family treasure to me for safe-keeping in our bank. I met the man in 1992 in America and he introduced himself as a SHIP CAPTAIN. We became intimate more when he realized my profession, there and then, he informed me about the consignment. However, I did not take it so serious not until he brought the box to my office.I assisted him in depositing the treasure and CERTIFICATE OF DEPOSIT issued to him. However,he saw me as someone trustworthy and decided to hand-over the document to me for safe-keeping. He left back to his country, though he is always on the Sea being a Sailor. All our correspondence was through telephone. Our discussion stopped since last year when I called his telephone number, and behold someone else had bought over the telephone. the new subscriber told me that Mr. kelly smith died along-side, his wife and only two children at the World Trade Centre during the BIN-LADEN bomb blast, in America. This news shocked me so much that MR. kelly smith did not leave any of his contact address or next of kin,and since then all plans to trace any of his relatives proved abortive. Honestly, I became confused, and resorted to informing my colleague in the office, who suggested that we should open the box a little to know the content proper. The box was carefully opened and GUESS WHAT? BILLS OF ONE HUNDRED UNITED STATE DOLLARS, denomination carefully defaced. I and my colleague agreed and secretly took the box out from the bank and deposited it with a security company here. We have concluded plans to invest the money total three million seven hundred thousand united staed dollars $3.7m(USD) out of cotonou republic of benin and required an assistance from a Would-be Trustworthy Over-Seas Partner who will help us receive the money overseas. If you can assist us, we can arrange and bring the money to your country by the help of Diplomats, for investment. I and my colleague has agreed to give you 30% of the total sum. Be rest-assured that the transaction is 100% risk-free and your urgent response is highly needed. So we cannot look for another person. Awaiting your urgent reply. Best regards, Mr.Zeou Walele.

Thank you so much for this wonderful website. It's helping me reconnect to my old folk singing days, with so many songs I have long forgotten. If I may offer one correction, below are the correct words to Phil Ochs' Changes, taken directly from his songbook The War is Over published by Barricade Music in 1968 (yes, I am one of those geeks who still has his copy of this tome from my college days. Below are only the two verses that are not correct. Moments of magic will glow in the night. All fears of the forest are gone, and when the morning breaks, they’re swept away like golden drops of dawn, of changes Passions will part to a strange melody As fires will sometimes burn cold, like petals in the wind, We're puppets to the silver strings of souls, of changes. Again, thank you so much for this website.

My wife had purchased my first six string acoustic for Christmas '87. This yamaha has been with me since. Sadly I never did learn to play well enough. I suppose being able to fret "F's", "B's" and barring chords will always elude me; but I always pick it daily and strum out a few simple-basic tunes. It's sites like yours that inspire me to keep trying. Thank you for sharing. Art James. (One day I'll get real clever and be able to play all songs I like in C, D, E, A, or G. But there was a song written named Dream, Dream, Dream...) ;) Art

Thanks for all the effort you've put in to spreading music (and therefore joy) to strangers. It gives me faith in humanity that people like you share simply for the sake of sharing, with nothing to gain. Was wondering if you, or anyone else reading the guest book, knows where I could find the chords to 'River of Jordan' by Peter, Paul & Mary, in the movie Airplane. I's a really beautiful song and I just can't find it anywhere.

My dearest friend Peter asked me if I could find the words and chords to the song "Boxer" and we were so delighted to find them on your web site! We are both really curious to know how web pages are invented and that it doesn't cost anyone anything. How can that be? Amazing world... He was in his 20's in the 60's playing in rock bands (even on tour to Vietnam with a group during the war), he is also amazed that since these songs are copy written - how is it that someone can post them on the web? We are truly thankful to you and your Mom for sharing this talent of yours with the world.

Hi Aaron, Just a note to say thanks for the songs. I'm a Brit living out here in Qatar but grew up in the States and some of these tunes bring back great memories of Princeton High School 1968-70. Always have admired the share many of the songs. Your transposer is very cool. Although most of the chord suggestions are fine, I dislike the chords for The Good Times That We Had. Here are mine (Slashes are for the second beat, 4/4 time): The Good Times We Had (written by Noel Stookey) C / G / Times have changed. C / Am / D7 / D7 / All the good times that we had . . . G7 / G7 / Are gone now. C / G / Passed this way, C / Am / D7 / D7 / Only memories will remain . . . G7 / G7 / Tomorrow. : G / G7 / Am / Am / I thought my dreams would be enough for a while, G / G7 / Am / Am / And all the plans that we made. G / G7 / Am / Am / Hey, we had love, that was all that we had, Dm / D7 / G7 / G7 / And even that don't seem the same. C / G / Peace of mind. C / F / D7 / D7 / Where's the happiness we should . . . G7 / G7 / Be having? C / G / We can't find, C / Am / D7 / G7 / C / Any answers in the good times we had. (repeat "Peace of mind ...")

I'm from Louisiana. During my years in Epworth, Iowa, from 1964 - 1968, I was in a folk group called The Colorful Few. I had learned many of the songs that you have here and over time I had forgotten the lyrics to some of them. Some I thought I would never see again like "The Rooster Song", which we used to play and get a good laugh. I had forgotten the lyrics to "Bottle of Wine" and I though that I would never find that song anywhere. Thanks a lot! It reminds me of a time when we really loved to sing together.

Actually, I thought about you earlier in December when my yard became one with plastic forks again. It was a poor attempt in comparison to the first year I lived in Rangely. This time there weren't Vienna sausages and there weren't any neighborhood cats feeding on the weenie delicacies. None-the-less, it made me wonder what you were up too. How are things? How is life outside of the country? Will AP junior be allowed to run for president someday? Or will he/she be born on foriegn soil? I hope all is great. Excellant site with good chording for great songs, not a few have I been looking for. It Ain't Me, Babe (DYLAN) just didn't seem to have the ring I remembered from the sixties. After some searching, including Dylan's chordings, I found a mix that presents good sound and am open to feedback.. Line 1 chords are same- G,Am,Bm,Am,G Line 2 chords - repeat line one chords Line 3&4 Change G to Bm, leave Am as is. Line 5 as is from C to D In the chorus, Add a D at the third no of the second line as is already done in the third line.

Your site helped me find old familiar songs we can use at the rally. Hopefuly, we'll be able to change the words of some of them so that they are relevant to the topic. Thank you once again.

You have obviously put an immense amount of work into this and yet you are generous enough to share the fruits of your labour on the web - for free! Thankyou so much. You have made a doctor in England very happy (although his friends and family will be less happy unless he improves his playing). Thanks to you I have become acquainted with a whole collection of music which I had previously never heard (I have spent the last 3 days flitting back and forth between your site and itunes). I am particularly grateful for the introduction to "The cat came back". Love it!

Great site, glad someone's doing this, thanks for all your hard work. If I recall right, Kristofferson wrote 'Me & Bobby McGee'. Think in terms of Otis Redding at Newport introducing Respect by saying now I'm gonna sing a song a woman took away from me. And speaking of Pearl, if it ever comes up, Bob Neuwrith wrote Mercedes Benz.

Whoa! The lyrics are wonderful. The chords I can figure out quick (unless it's Jazz) but I hate figuring out lyrics! Big Blue Frog" Yessss! I thought your readers might enjoy having the 1st 2 verses of "Goodnight Irene" I learned them from Leadbelly's recording of the song. I don't start with the chorus as neither did Leadbelly. "I asked your mother for you she said you was to young i wish dear lord i'd never seen your face i wish you'd never been born chorus Last Saturday night I got married me and my wife settled down Now me and my wife we are parted so I'll take a little walk downtown chorus" "Goodnight Irene" (the Weavers version) was popular when I was about 9 or ten. I'm 60 now. What I find amazing is that when I perform "Goodnight Irene" in front of audiences consisting largely of older teens and early twenty year olds they will start singing along on the chorus after the 1st couple of times I've sang it! "The kids" will ask about the song after the show because they had never heard it before. Talk about a hook! For that reason I usuaaly have to repeat the chorus 3 or 4 times at the end! Oh, of course it sounds better on a mandolin. Everything does :)

Now as an adult, I am trying to learn these songs on my own guitar but have had trouble remembering which songs to search for, and then I have trouble finding the songs I do remember. You have them all! Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to help us all preserve such wonderful childhood memories.

Hi Aaron, I am Elenita. I love music and I also play simple guitar tunes. I am a Filipina but now in the UK. I had been searching for my favorite music with guitar chords. I started with Simon & Garfunkel's The Boxer ( my brother's favorite) and as I went through my search, I discovered your song page with guitar chords. I wa ecstatic because most of the songs that my brother taught me with his little guitar are all there and with chords. I am away from him...and he is terminally ill. I just want to spend my leisure hours remembering him and our happy childhood days through the songs we shared to love...mostly folk songs. He is a fantastic guitarist. I am here in the UK and he is there in the Philippines with the rest of my siblings. I emailed to just thank you for sharing your music to strangers like me. I truly appreciate it. As I surf the net I look for songs and music like what you have put here. Thanks for the words I had long forgotten. Be well and keep up the good work.

Dear Sir/Madam: I am a guitar player, drummer as well and write my own music. I wanted to incorporate some copy songs as well with my originals. I found your site and I was compelled to tell you that you did a Great! Job putting all these great songs together with lyrics as well as chords. I'm a drummer many years and was in pro bands. But now play a lot of acoustic electric guild guitar for I like being in front a bit. I practice 6-8 hours a day and play many places as well. With originals I have made, as well as some copies. But your site took the cake! In quality songs. That I can now have fun with as well as play for friends and places I perform. As I said I was compelled to write you and say thank you for all your hard efforts to help people like me to play songs correctly. Be well, and May God Bless. Hi Aaron, My daughter is learning to play the guitar, and she introduced me to your songlist page. Very well done, very useful to her, too. I noticed that you don't have the singer/songwriter listed for "I Ain't Marching Anymore"--this was Phil Ochs, and the song comes from his album of the same name, the first record of his to be well-known back in the day. He was an incredibly inspiring idealist at that point; his decline into despair and death came much later. Just thought I'd let you know who wrote the song.

Hello friend, So happy to sign your guest book. I am from Malaysia, Shah Alam, aged 68, male and retired. I have been wanting to learn chord progressions on my keyboard and thought the net was the best place to get guides. Unfortunately besides learning theory no practical help was forthcoming. I got into your website by chance and believe me your lyrics and chords are so exhaustive and I am going to learn chord progressions using them. Thank you so very much. I appreciate the hours you would have put in to get the thing going, and the best part of it sharing it. You got a heart of gold. Thank you very much. God bless you.

I do several of his songs, however one of my favorites has me stumped on chords. I get the verses okay and then he loses me. The song is "When my rowboat comes in." on the CD "Affordable Art" Any help would be appriciated. Thanks

Your Mama must be truly marvelous. Next time you see her, please give her an extra hug from your newest fan in Minnesota and tell her I hope I can raise my son to be just like you. (Since birth, he's been sung to sleep with "August to May," and he spends quite a bit of time scheming about how to capture the chipmunks that nest in the downspouts on our front porch. So those are promising Aaron Parsons-esque traits, don't you agree?!) THANK YOU for creating this site! Finding it was like seeing an old friend.

The oldies are the best. Reading through your list of songs has brought back some great memories from the days of "Love and Peace Man." Great times great songs. The fact that we're still playing the same old songs has got to mean that you can't beat quality. Thanks for the site and may God bless and keep you all in your travels. p.s. Can you include Heart of Gold by Neil Young if possible.

A nice eclectic spread of songs! What I would really like to see would be a head start on chords for "Springtime Promises" - a Pentangle song from their "Basket of Light" album. As the title implies, it follows the turning of the seasons, majoring on the promise that springtime makes of the summer to follow. Beautiful.

Nice selection of tunes here. I am a violinist with a Jazz group. My guitar playing and teaching is pretty basic. I teach guitar at a camp each summer. Each spring I search out EZ tunes for my students grade 2 - 9. It was nice to finally print out a copy for myself of Long Black Veil. Hey, I might even work it with the kids and completely change the words! Michael Robbins

The verse goes: C#m7 G#7, C#m7 C(barre) D(barre) E E7, F#m B E A, F#m B E A. Hope this works out for you. Clapton is GOD. I'm impressed with the all of the great folk songs this site provides. The beloved songs are very much a part of me.The ease of instantly transposing the lyrics opens up a brand new way to find the range that best suits my voice and challenging me to learn more unfamiliar chords. Please consider including John Hartfords Gentle On My Mind in your song index. Thanks so much, Marvin

Fantastic site.Started playing classical guitar aged 60, and impressed no one,Looked for two years for books with a more popular style. Found stuff with lots of pages and few songs to play. Your site was just what I needed its like gold dust to me, please keep up this very very good work. All the best Peter B

I imagine I am your mom's age, and if I'd have had a kid (which I didn't), my kid might be posting something similar to this. I am delighted to see the sing along tradition passed from one generation to the next. Thank you for posting these sing along songs. Linda
