Polluters always get caught out lying.

Newcrest Cadia gold mine report confirms lead contamination connection to rainwater tanks.

....The report recaps independent studies commissioned by the mine to predict community exposure to date, including a tailings dust study, micro particle shed and lead fingerprinting work done by the University of South Australia.

Lead fingerprinting allows lead to be traced to its source using isotopic signatures.

Under the lead fingerprinting section, the report mentions that lead matching Cadia's isotopic signature was found in 40 per cent of tank sludge samples collected by Newcrest.

This contradicts the mine's July press release that stated there was "no evidence linking Cadia to the lead sampled in district rainwater tanks"......

.....Using national health data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the assessment built a picture of the health of the Blayney and Orange districts that flank the mine and compared them to the wider region.

It did this to "accurately assess the potential impact of the CVO operations on the population".

Statistics showed premature respiratory mortality rates for the Orange district were double the state average, and rates for Blayney were approaching double. Childhood asthma rates were also elevated......
Not to mention the lead dust being spread over all that agricultural land.

The fossil fuel industry certainly likes crying foul and the sky will fall when they get ruled against.

Industry leaders warn of 'big ripple effect' on Australian economy, international reputation after Woodside defeat.

....But they also hope the case will pave the way for the development of clearer regulations to achieve better consultation with traditional owners.

Mardudhunera woman Raelene Cooper claimed a David verse Goliath style victory when the Federal Court effectively slammed the brakes on the gas giant's plans to carry out seismic blasting for the project off WA's Pilbara coast.

The court found an environmental plan for the blasting was invalid and should never have been given approval after Ms Cooper successfully argued she had not been adequately consulted.

Ms Cooper's legal challenge stemmed from concerns that the release of powerful blasts of air towards the ocean floor to find gas deposits could impact whales and other marine life......
Gone are the days that the fossil fuel industry could wreck the environment as it pleased, but how long will it take to finally sink in?

Our former right wing state government denied that mining left environmental pollution on farming land, and yet as usual they were lying their asses off to protect their rich polluting mining buddies.

Cadmium at 50,000 times the legal level found next to farm near disused gold mine in NSW, inquiry told.

....The inquiry's chair, Greens MLC Amanda Cohen, questioned the couple further about the testing results.

"You're talking about the quality of the water that's running through your property, you said that the pH was measured at 2.2?" she said.

"So 2.2 is consistent with stomach acid and the position of the former NSW government was that you didn't have contamination on your property?"

"That's correct," Ms Sullivan replied.....
And what were their junior coalition partners doing during this time? They're the 1's who are suppose to represent the farmers of this country, but it looks like they can't even do that when big mining money is involved.

It was just a shame that NASA wouldn't pay their $400 littering fine back in '79 (though the fine was paid by public donations in the end).

Dish Network fined by US communications regulator for improper disposal of space junk.

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued the first-ever fine for the improper disposal of space junk to television provider Dish Network.

Due to a lack of propellant left on one of the company's satellites, the craft was unable to complete its planned disposal in February 2022.

It was ultimately retired at an orbit well short of the 300 kilometres specified in its clean-up plan, according to the FCC.

The regulator's investigation found that Dish Network had violated the Communications Act, the FCC rules, and the terms of the company’s license.

Dish Network was fined $US150,000 ($238,000).....

I certainly hope that this makes it through.

Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young introduces water trigger bill to close fracking loophole.

A Greens senator and an independent are hoping to urgently close a legal loophole that allows fracking corporations "a license to drill without regard for rivers".

Sarah Hanson-Young today gave notice she'll be introducing a private senator's bill to expand the national "water trigger" to ensure all gas fracking projects are assessed by the federal environment minister for their impact on local water resources.

As it stands, only coal seam gas projects are required to be assessed and approved under Australia's national environment legislation — the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act).

At a press conference at Parliament House on Monday, Senator Hanson-Young said changes to Australia's environment laws were "desperately" needed as the possibility of full-scale fracking production approaches reality in the Northern Territory's gas rich Beetaloo Basin.

"There is a water trigger in the current laws, but it is very narrow and doesn't take into consideration unconventional gas and fracking," she said.

"We're worried this loophole is going to mean the big gas corporations who want to frack in the Northern Territory can get environmental approval without any consideration of the impacts those gas projects are going to have on the water they take and the land that they are on.".....
As we might avoid more things like this happening.

I wonder if we could do these tests on fossil fuel execs instead of on innocent lobsters?

Study of seismic testing used in offshore oil, gas and energy industries finds lobsters 'concussed'.

Seismic testing critical to Western Australia's offshore oil, gas and energy industries is dazing, and potentially killing, the state's valuable western rock lobsters, a new study has found.

The practice is essential to offshore oil and gas exploration and the construction of wind turbines, and involves firing powerful air guns, creating soundwaves that penetrate the ocean floor.

But research by the WA government's Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development has found lobsters exposed to the testing are significantly impacted.

Offshore crustaceans scientist Simon de Lestang studied the behaviour of lobsters after they were exposed to seismic testing conducted offshore, in shallow water south of Geraldton.

"For the short term, we grabbed each lobster and we put it upside down in a water tank and we timed how long it took the lobster to stand back up again on all of its legs," Dr de Lestang said.

"We found that any lobsters, out of the group of lobsters that had experienced the airguns from the seismic survey, took significantly longer to stand up again, as if they were a bit concussed, if you will, or dazed."

The lobsters exposed to the seismic testing were compared to a control group placed in a pot 10 kilometres from where the testing occurred.

Both groups were tagged, and then released into the water after approximately 36 hours.

"A healthy fresh lobster, when you release it, just shoots off under water straight away, straight back to a ledge, whereas most of the seismic lobsters we found more just drifted down again, a little bit concussed and dazed and sort of slowly floated down to the bottom," he said.

"So there was a real significant difference in their behaviour when we released them again."......

There are a lot more than only lobsters getting concussed...

Those explosions of sound kill and injure all the creatures around. The bigger the creature, the greater the range at which they are injured. For a surprisingly long long way away.

For just one example, note how the first successful torpedo attack in the American Civil War was a success and the submarine used survived.

Shame about all the submarine crew suffering the insides of their bodies turning to pulp from the sound of the explosion...

The sound waves used for seismic surveys are very much 'louder'...

There has to be a better way...

Stay safe folks?

More crude gets let loose in the Gulf of Mexico. :-(

Search is on for pipeline leak after as much as 1.1 million gallons of oil spills into Gulf of Mexico.

As much as 1.1 million gallons of oil may have been discharged into the Gulf of Mexico from a pipeline system off Louisiana's southeast coast, the U.S. Coast Guard said Tuesday.

The affected pipeline has been shut down, but authorities were still trying to determine the exact location and cause of the leak, officials said during a Coast Guard news conference. None of the oil has reached land so far, though its effect on wildlife was still being investigated. A U.S. Fish and Wildlife official said two oily pelicans were sighted off the Louisiana coast Saturday but still appeared active and able to fly.

The oil discharge was discovered amid high winds in the Gulf, which helped some of the oil evaporate and disperse. However, sheens and patches were will visible, said Capt. Kelly Denning, the Coast Guard's New Orleans sector commander.

The Coast Guard said the oil was discovered near a pipeline system owned by Main Pass Oil Co., a subsidiary of Houston-based Third Coast Infrastructure LLC. The company did not immediately respond to a Tuesday morning request for comment. A 67-mile stretch of pipeline was shut down last week as officials worked to pinpoint the location and cause of the leak....

Rich people living in posh areas seem to be the worse of the worst. :-(

Almost 300 trees cut down to clear Sydney Harbour views.

Almost 300 trees have been illegally removed from a harbourside nature reserve, with the local council calling it the “worst act of environmental vandalism” in the suburb’s history.

Lane Cove Council initially reported that between 50 and 100 trees were removed from bushland at the Woodford Bay foreshore in Longueville, on Sydney’s north shore, sometime in the last month.

However, after council workers mapped the area, that figure almost doubled to 296, the ABC reported.

The affluent suburb offers coveted views of Sydney Harbour Bridge and glistening waters studded with yachts and motorboats.

Longueville properties sell for an eye-watering $5.775 million on average, according to the latest data from realestate.com.au.

Now that hundreds of trees have been removed, those living on waterside properties on Arabella St have unobstructed views of the iconic skyline......
They were probably trying to add an extra million to their properties because of the view.

Should Trump or the Republicans gain power, you ain't seen anythin' yet for the atrocities against our world and existence:

‘Project 2025’: plan to dismantle US climate policy for next Republican president

What troubles me is the Heritage Foundation’s long history … of working to undermine environmental protection at the expense of health and wellbeing of the American people, at the expense of life on Earth,”...

How will the USA vote?

Will the Republicans accept ANY vote other than another Confederate civil war?

After over 10yrs the environment and locals get a win over big multinational.

Glencore blocked from expanding McArthur River Mine port facility in High Court ruling.

*In short: Native title holders from the McArthur River area in the Northern Territory have won a High Court battle that will stop mining giant Glencore expanding port facilities on the Gulf of Carpentaria.

*The mining company wanted more space to contain dredge material near its large zinc and lead mine, but the group successfully argued the construction would affect their native title.

*What's next? The High Court ruling orders the NT government not to grant the lease to Glencore that would have allowed it to build a new area to store dredge spoil.

It maybe time to stop people climbing Mt. Everest.

There is 3000kg of human poo estimated to be on Mount Everest and it’s causing a foul stench, with climbers now forced to collect faeces.

People climbing Mount Everest will be required to use poo bags that will be “checked upon their return” – with 3000kg of human faeces estimated to be sitting on the famous mountain.

In recent years, social media has exposed the filthy condition tourists leave campsites on the world’s highest peak with shocking pictures and videos showing a mess of rubbish.

But now another big problem has made international headlines.

Mingma Sherpa, chairman of Pasang Lhamu rural municipality, told BBC their mountains “have begun to stink” because of human poo that does not degrade fully in the extreme cold.

The broadcaster reported authorities are taking action by requiring climbers to buy the poo bags at base camp, which will be “checked upon their return”.....

With all the icebreakers around these days are we only making matters worse by breaking up all this sea ice?

US Coast Guard using Hobart as a home port mentioned as 'emerging prospect' in Tasmanian government document.

After all we do need that ice to reflect heat away from the planet so do we really need more of them?
