I joined a crowdfunding drive for a new product. Due for despatch during February, but they sent us a nice email on 27 Feb, explaining the situation. Multiple factories in multiple locations need to supply parts: some are still under lockdown, others are back at work. It's a 'nice to have', not critical, so I'm not fretting over it: good if it arrives later in spring, so I can open the box out in some nice UV-bearing, disinfecting, sunlight!

Ordered an inexpensive water distiller a while back. They are all made in china. Got it months ago for use with my Keurig coffee maker. Just checked a few minutes ago and the price has doubled from 120 to 249 USD. My local site for nextdoor.com people are complaining they cannot get distilled water from the stores in addition to bottled water or toilet tissue. On neighbor needs it for the nebulizer her sick child uses. People are hoarding and there is no need. Toilet tissue is not imported, there are plenty of manufacturers here in USA for TP. No need to hoard.

Not sure how my distiller got UL approval. There is no off switch, only a "reset" and removing the lid to fill it cause water to drip directly down INTO the electrical plug at its base. Really bad design as lid cannot be lifted straight up. It turns off when it gets too hot (no water left to boil). Maybe It is just the cord that that has the UL rating.

Or it’s just a fake UL rating. Plenty of stuff from China has that kind of thing. They don’t care.

Not that hard to just distill your own tap water either. Boil and condense.

In much the same way as stuff coming into Europe has CE marks - fraud. One of my colleagues is legally authorised to sign CE marks for a particular range of products, and only those products. He saw his signature on something that he knew he'd never signed-off as it was outside his range of products; that started a very massive product recall and series of law cases that led to a few people enjoying the hospitality of one of Her Majesity's B&B establishments. (Some folks are exceeding stupid, coming into a country where one has been found guilty in-absentia and not expect to be invited to accompany a couple of police officers.....)
