Message 1934126 - Posted: 7 May 2018, 5:46:47 UTC

When i start my computer, or it awakens from sleep and I log in, two messages appear on my screen from Boincmgr:

First says "Unknown option 'A'"
After I click OK, the second appears:
"Usage: boincmgr [/h][--verbose][/a][/s][/n<str>][/g<str>][/p<str>][/b<str>][/i][/c][/m][/nd]"
then gives the dictionary listings for the various letter codes.
When i click OK that message goes away, and I am able to start BOINC and it runs with no difficulties until the next time the computer wakes up.
It's merely an annoyance, but I'd like for it to go away. Any advice is much appreciated.

Message 1934168 - Posted: 7 May 2018, 11:47:36 UTC - in response to Message 1934126.

BOINC Manager starts either from the registry, or from the StartUp directory. It starts with the /a and /s attributes, where /a means autostart and /s means minimize to system tray. If for some reason the / is missing from the command, it'll complain that 'A' is not an option.

For the Startup directory, go Start->(All) Programs->BOINC->right click on BOINC Manager, properties. In the window that opens check what attributes there are on starting boincmgr.exe, and if there's an 'a'/'A' here, making it '/a' (slash, lower case a), Apply, OK.

If there's nothing in the Startup directory, BM starts from the registry.
You can check what it's doing and with what attributes by going Start->Search->msconfig.exe->Enter
In Msconfig, click the Startup tab. In the list find BOINC Client and enlarge the Command column to see what attributes it has.
Mind, there are two BOINC Client entries. One is for boinctray.exe, which is the BOINC Idle Detection program, the other is for boincmgr.exe, the BOINC Manager executable. If it's at its default path, it has to show as "C:\Program Files\BOINC\boincmgr.exe" /a /s, including the quotes because of the space in the path.

If it shows any different here, it shows different in the registry. at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Find the boincmgr entry in the right pane, double click it, make it "C:\Program Files\BOINC\boincmgr.exe" /a /s and press OK. Then exit the registry again.

The next time your computer starts and you log in, it should now work correctly.

No luck with either method, so I gave up and uninstalled/re-installed the program, which fixed the problem. Thank you for your advice.
