The original PC I used from 2000 onwards died after running SETI@home for a few years. Now in 2018, I have rejoined from a new laptop. I see under Computing that I have "Total credit = 0" but "SETI@home classic workunits = 2,497". How do I have no credit when the record of my old 2,497 units still exists? Has some new distinction been introduced during my long absence where credit is not linked to previous work done, defined as "classic workunits"? If classic workunits does not mean credit for work done, then what is credit? Thank you.

"Credit" replaced the old "Cobblestone" system a couple of years after you left. The whole basis of the two systems is so different that there was no realistic way of converting between the two. However it is possible to link your current account with your old account so you see in your current record the number of tasks run and hours of effort, which I see you have already done.

Hi, rob. I just posted https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=83022&postid=1939525 and like Mr. O'Dea I am in similar situation... except that I have some serious trouble with recovering my old work.
Now that I know there is significant system change in the two systems, I still want to combine my old account work with my new one.
Can you guys please help me out?

Okay, so I found this more proper topic for my problem.

I tried https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_classic_link.php and got two responses.

The first one, put {lastname}-{firstname}@{myschool}.edu and says
No Classic account exists with the e-mail address: {lastname}-{firstname}@{myschool}.edu

This one is correct, because I remember I did not use that address.

Now the second one, put {firstname}-{lastname}@{myschool}.edu and says
The account with this e-mail address ({firstname}-{lastname}@{myschool}.edu) is not a Classic account, or has already been transferred to another BOINC account.

I believe I used this address for SETI and/or BOINC project for sure.
I do believe my old account for SETI is the classic one. I remember I used to use the standalone GUI application for Windows in 2000.

So... the chance is... I already created another account and transferred the credits over there? or someone else who knows my email address stole them?

Is there any way to see what my old account status is by my old email address (given that I already lost control over it)?

Subtly different question.
While the "credits" from your standalone account can't be merged with you current BOINC account you can have them displayed on your account information page by "linking" the two accounts. The old standalone account can only be linked to one BOINC account, and you can only have one standalone account linked to a BOINC account. It does sound as if someone else has linked to your old account, or you've wrongly remembered your old school account, have you tried using a "dot" instead of a "dash" in the name?

Do know that a lot of active (at the time) classic accounts were automatically upgraded to BOINC accounts at the time of Seti switching from classic to BOINC. So it is possible that a classic account is already a BOINC account and therefore cannot be claimed anymore for inclusion into a newly made BOINC account.

You can test that by filling in those email addresses into https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/get_passwd.php but this only works if you still have access to that email address.

I am certain dash is not dot, because when using dot it says there is no account and when using dash it says it just sent a reset message to that address.

I tried that link and got the message through, but unfortunately the school address is already inactive more than 10 years ago and I have no control whatsoever.
So... am I stuck?
