do you store your nave plates in the boot? Do you have any translations for that by any chance? In Sweden we also have problem to understand each other. Skåne for instance the most southern part of Sweden. In Swedish a girl is called Flicka. In Skåne they are called Piga. In Swedish a boy is called Pojke. In Skåne they are called Påg. I have still problem to understand what people from Skåne are saying. Hehe:) |

Making fun of our spelling differences? ROFLMFAOASTCAbsolutely. Hours of fun to be had on both sides of the Atlantic. I like and use your 'sidewalk' when I can - it's a much better, and safer, description of where feet should go, and wheels shouldn't go. But I struggle with 'touchdown'. Who touches what down where? |

Going back to the original topic of this thread. I liked the Guardian sketchwriter's take on Brexit today: The point of leaving the EU, apparently, was so Britain could pay £120m over the odds for something it could get cheaper from mainland Europe. So how about a campaign to send the Dutch masters' paintings back to the Netherlands? Keep the National Gallery national. |

. But I struggle with 'touchdown'. Who touches what down where? Quite obviously a try in rugby. |

. But I struggle with 'touchdown'. Who touches what down where? Rugby? The game when men meet men holding an oval ball and hugging each other in the mud. Now I'm getting really confused. In the US they call it Football. Slight difference in the rules. Doesn't Americans know what a foot and a ball is? |

Making fun of our spelling differences? ROFLMFAOASTC Oh yes... Many more. Spelling differences due to dialect. Very funny. I am not sure about English in the UK... but in the USA, we have many dialects of English... With not just differences in pronunciation (accent), not just spelling differences, not just vocabulary differences, but in some cases even differences in grammar. Even Texas has at least 5 main dialects: Gulf southern, southern Appalachian, south midland, southwestern, and 'Texan' (somewhat a blend of the others). https://youtu.be/iY57ErBkFFE #Texit Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016. Truth is dangerous... especially when it challenges those in power. |

It has even been discussed in this very forum some years ago. Someone put up a link to how fishermen on the north east coast off US talks. Hilarious:) I wonder how people in Lousiania speeks at their cray fish parties. Cray fish parties is a tradition that both Sweden and Finland share with them:) |

I wonder how people in Lousiania speeks at their cray fish parties. "Laissez les bons temps rouler!" They speak American Southern style English with some Creole French and Cajun French thrown in. https://www.bing.com/search?q=how+people+in+louisiana+speak&FORM=AWRE ... |

My favorite UK sign is "Mind the Gap" on tube/train platforms. There is a yellow (or it was yellow) painted stripe near the edge of the platform as a safety zone to stand clear of incoming/departing/passing tubes/trains. ... |

Well to me the biggest insult to Great Britain is that some Kings/Queens in Britain let the pesky French decide how to speak and spell the British language some several 100 years ago. Before the French intervention it was a very nice language and very easy to us Scandinavians to understand. The spelling rules are to me very difficult even though that I know French but now the English is very much a mix of both. You never know how to spell in a Brit way or a French way. Whatever. English is now global lingua franca. |

Moomin, unless you stop posting youtube clips in my thread, I will ask the mods to close it as the OP. I have made the basic point I wanted to, and I'm not having it spammed and hijacked by you. Stop your rubbish Chris S! It's you who doesn't acknowledge the SETI rule "No messages intended to annoy or antagonize other people, or to hijack a thread." First you start start a thread called "Biggest insult to Great Britain ever". Then you insult France, Norway and Sweden! And me. As always! And what the F**K is a "my thread" in the SETI forum? |

I think the biggest insult to Britain is that some of its residents feel that Britain is the only country of note on this planet. The best evidence for that is what some will have lacquered on their gravestone regarding other countries... ...Sad :-( |

I think the biggest insult to Britain is that some of its residents feel that Britain is the only country of note on this planet. I would like to say a very few of Britain residents feel that they are the only country of note on this planet. Sorry to see those few here in the SETI forum though:( |
