When stories like this one come to light?

The 26-year-old was crossing the US-Canada border with partner Heather Kransco on April 24 to satisfy the renewal clause in his five-year American visa.

But authorities delayed the couple at the border until 1.30am the following morning, meaning Mr Baxter missed his cut-off by the narrowest of margins.

He was banged up in a Federal Detention Centre in Batavia, New York until lawyers negotiated his release today.

Even with the numerous cheap travel deals on offer over here ATM incidents like this won't help. :-(

Absolute stupidity.

No cheers here.

Agree in principle, however, there are 2 issues with that report.

A: Why did the Canadians question him for so long?

B: WHY did he leave such an important matter to the last moment?

A: Isn't it U.S. authorities who check you out when going from Canada to the U.S. and Canadian authorities who check you out when traveling from the U.S. to Canada?

B: I can't personally say, but he should've been there the day before hand instead of being 90 minutes late.

It's still not helping tourism there that has greatly slumped since Trump took office and that the up to half price deals on offer here arn't being taken up.

Cheers.

And what does a five year visa got to do with tourism?

Tourism is considered 90 days or less and doesn't always require a visa.

Because potential tourists read these stories and decide on more peaceful and sensible destinations to go to, even if it costs them a bit more to get there. ;-)

Cheers.

tRump won't learn from this. Soon it will be 30 times.

They are coming to work and be productive and hell and high water won't stop them.

Better to register them so we know who is who and they can get things like drivers licenses and car insurance.

We already do that up here Washington. That is why a Washington DL will no longer get you on a plane or back in from Canada.

Google is your friend.
http://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/gettingalicense.html

5.Decide if you want a standard driver license or an enhanced driver license. ◦An enhanced driver license (EDL) is an acceptable alternative to a passport for re-entry into the U.S. at land and sea border crossings. A standard driver license can’t be used for border crossings. Getting an EDL has different steps and requires a trip to an EDL office. Follow the steps to getting your EDL/EID if you’d like an EDL.

6.Visit a driver licensing office to apply for a license. If you have a permit, you've already done this and can skip this step. a.Bring your proof of identity and your WA residence street address.
b.Tell us your Social Security number (required to help enforce child support laws). ◦You don’t need to show the card. We’ll still be able to verify it.
◦If you don’t have a Social Security number, you must verify your WA residence address before you can proceed.

They started changing things just recently after Feds refused regular DL. I don't know what has changed for I have WA Enhanced driver license/ID card (EDL/EID) which requires real documentation. So not an issue for me.

There is some amount of truth to that statement, especially in Texas.

They don't even have to be foreign tourists. Even/especially Yankees down here.

If the Yankees came down, spent their money, then went back home, it would not be a problem...

BUT...

A LOT of Yankees come down here to Texas, see how nice it is, and turn into Damn-Yankee-Carpetbaggers and want to STAY... Grrr...

You can't even get a decent hot sauce at a restaurant down here anymore. Afraid the Yankees will sue them cause it is so gosh-darned hot (to them).

Wish the Yankees would stop ruining the place.

Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016.

Truth is dangerous... especially when it challenges those in power.

Foods better in New Orleans and, possibly surprisingly, Seattle.

In your opinion, maybe... But, not everyone shares that opinion.

While the food in New Orleans is good, I have eaten far better (in my opinion) down on the Texas gulf coast, and truthfully in Dallas also.

Seattle? Eww.. (in my opinion).

But which place has better food is just a matter of individual opinion.

But this is not the same thing as 'hot sauce' in restaurants. That got its heat level toned down here in Texas because the Yankees are a bunch of wimps and can't handle our heat level. The Restaurants quit serving the hotter stuff because they didn't want to get sued by the Yankees. Lots of places you can't even sign a release or even just beg the chef for something similar to the old heat level. This makes me sad.

I'll admit that I take the British view, if you need to put sauce on the food, then there is something wrong with the food.
Most countries that overdo the sauces are places that before refrigeration had to disguise the rotting food with a sauce.
