As far as I can tell, financial or emotional carry the risk of physical hurt. Someone can get hurt on the job working those extra hours to make up for the financial hurt. Someone can be distracted by the emotional pain and be involved in an accident form that distraction. If other students and faculty have to be hurt and suffer because of their employers stand, so be it. I will not be held hostage to culturally destructive behavior. Lost here is the group on campus that issued the invite revoked the invite. The speaker also declined before the invite was revoked. All because Berkeley doesn't have enough police officers to keep the outsiders out of the campus. It isn't like an elementary school with a big high fence around it. They would need several thousand cops two feet apart to block access to outsiders. And that would be a Kent State. What I want to know is who was paying her $50,000.00 speakers fee? http://www.celebrityspeakersbureau.com/talent/ann-coulter/ |

I know for sure that it is not the Korpela movement behind this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korpela_movement And that Eric and his SETI team should be involved in religious or political matters... Sigh... Hyvää Eric:) |

They would need several thousand cops two feet apart to block access to outsiders. And that would be a Kent State. Uhh... Gary... Kent State wasn't the cops... It was the military (Ohio National Guard) that sprayed the crowd with gunfire killing (4) and injuring (9) all those kids. If it had been the cops, it would not have caused all the hubbub (Jackson State (2 dead, 12 injured) a few days later was largely ignored). https://youtu.be/iY57ErBkFFE #Texit Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016. Truth is dangerous... especially when it challenges those in power. |

For a "retired" history teacher, you seem to have a fixation on events pre-1945 that's beginning to look very obsessive. Don't you think it's time to move to post-1945 as it's more relevant to your lifespan? |

As I, and other Freedom Supporting, Ethical and Moral People would say:- should have done a bunk to Canada rather than serve two tours of Nam. |

As a retired academic, you should take note of what a current academic said: - "If someone reads that to mean that I think everyone on one side of the issue is a right wing white supremacist and everyone on the other is a left wing anarchist they need to head back to middle school for some reading comprehension lessons. Hasn't political correctness gone a little too far when you can't say that a group of self avowed white supremacists is a group of white supremacists?" Sadly, if you cannot comprehend the replies to your words then all that is left for one to think is that you couldn't be much cop as a teacher. A genuinely moral & ethical person would not touch a weapon let alone serve 2 combat tours. |

A genuinely moral & ethical person would not touch a weapon let alone serve 2 combat tours. It seems that you can't remember what you post, care to go back & re-read them? Your version of "Free speech" labelled me as the "Irish Nation" that we all supported or excused the ratclap you've been splaying on the boards for some time. As for the "Baby killer" remark, I can be excused that as I only follow history - After all wasn't that what your fellow countrymen called all those who served in Nam? By your continued reference to events of the past, I also have the right to refer to history - If that makes it a personal attack on you, then as a history teacher, shouldn't you be working hard to have that erased from history? |

The God Given Right of Free Speech his people deserved. This idea that freedom of expression is god-given is almost exclusively American. Rather ironically, it required the American people to fight against a nation that even two centuries later has a state church, and then affirm this right in a constitution in which no god(s) are mentioned and whose only reference to religion is exclusionary. The United States of America was the first nation in history to do this, where every other nation had an official religion and a "divinely appointed" ruler. Today almost every nation with an official religion still has blasphemy laws on the books (even Ireland) and many do enforce them ie the Islamic governments, sometimes very harshly. I am guessing you are no longer claiming to be an atheist then? |

As I, and other Freedom Supporting, Ethical and Moral People would say:- should have done a bunk to Canada rather than serve two tours of Nam. Surius, I will give Clyde a pass on that one. We were a brain washed generation being lied to by a government which incorrectly feared monolithic communism. It wasn't until years later that I learned how corrupt our involvement in that war was. |

As I, and other Freedom Supporting, Ethical and Moral People would say:- should have done a bunk to Canada rather than serve two tours of Nam. I genuinely understand that & also think it was disgusting on the way the Vets were treated. However, with that understanding, Clyde continuously makes a rod for his own back as is the case here. Moral & ethical? Many genuinely had those & refused to serve & paid the price. So... ...anything else is just an excuse. |

I'm glad to see this thread. I'd already decided to never again donate a penny to Cal, and unfortunately that includes SETI and BOINC, until the university starts welcoming diverse opinions on and to its campus. As you can see by the lack of a star by my name I've already started. I'll continue to number crunch but others will have to provide the finances. |

What says it all really is this: - You & others like you are a "Clear & Present Danger to the United States of America" & in fact, the rest of the world as well. |

Your apparent belief that a Murdering and Enslaving Evil System of Control. Is necessary to replace another Evil. Clyde, what sort of delusional world do you live in, I clearly posted that it was our govt. that was corrupt in this case. It was the S Vietnamese who were not following the treaty that was supposed to have a national election. The atrocities all parties committed in the name of their causes were reprehensible. |

What says it all really is this: - Real Free Speech is not free, it has consequences. Most know that, but the ones who refuse to accept that fact are the ones who are the real suppressors/oppressors. |
