Isn't ordering someone to condemn something exactly what you are condemning? Essentially you are imposing your will on another person. So the question is when are you going to condemn yourself? |

Isn't ordering someone to condemn something exactly what you are condemning? Essentially you are imposing your will on another person. Not only ordering a condemnation. But ordering them to think the same way they do and use the same terminology. Quite fascist if you ask me. Awaiting Clyde’s condemnation of himself. Won't happen in the other China though! But the rest of the country, roughly 1.4 Billion, might be able to do something. If they wish to. It’s up to them to take action. You mean like in Hong Kong right now? |

The evil Chinese government is allowing it to happen in HK. It’s the same government. HK is IN China. Under their rule since 1997. And if you had any real exposure to China, you’d know that almost everyone uses proxies and VPNs to get around the great firewall. People have access to information about anything. It's the Han people that rule in China. Other people in China are at best only re-educated. Not in HK however! |

I met many ethnic minorities while traveling in China. The Tujia people I stayed with in the Hunan region didn’t seem oppressed at all. They lived their lives quite peacefully. The government says that most people in China are Han, but there are many many ethnic minorities in China and most of them are not oppressed. The people in Xinjiang are the exception to this. You have to understand that China is a very homogenous country. Identity is very strongly linked to your blood/genes and what you look like. I don’t agree with it, but that’s how their culture is. Uyghur people look more middle eastern/western/Caucasian and most don’t identify with chinese ethnically or culturally. This causes tensions. It’s hard to understand when you come from a western country that’s used to diversity. It’s a combination of fear and control that leads the CCP to act this way. Everything in China is about face. They (CCP) have to have the image of control, and are afraid of losing it. Seti@Home classic workunits: 29,492 CPU time: 134,419 hours |

The more western they become the less the emphasis on face. Obvious difference would be DPRK and ROK. My other observation about face is, the more a person worries about his own face and attempts to put on a good one, the less actual face they have. Or in western terms the more you seek to appear moral to others, the less moral you are. |

I met many ethnic minorities while traveling in China. The Tujia people I stayed with in the Hunan region didn’t seem oppressed at all. They lived their lives quite peacefully. That's probably true. We have indigenous people here as well in our little country. We have some Same and Finns that have lived here long before we did. Now since my GF is both a Same and a Finn, and part Russian as well, it can be a problem:) One thing that is really funny though is that one of her brothers was forced to learn Swedish. A Swedish program called SFI, Swedish for immigrants. The only language he knewed is of course Swedish since he was born in Sweden and never spoke Same or Finn. btw. Do Sames have a different face? Yes:) Yes. cultural differences in a country do matter in the political world... |
