Message 1834074 - Posted: 4 Dec 2016, 17:59:01 UTC

Greetings,

I like the new website format. I have one minor issue though. With the old format there was a link to our account on the main page. Now there is not. I do not stay logged out and would love to see the account link back on the main page. Is there any possibility that it could return for use soon?

Thank you. :)

There is a link to my account from the main page in the upper right-hand corner of the page. It's only there if I'm logged into the website.

There is a link to my account from the main page in the upper right-hand corner of the page. It's only there if I'm logged into the website.

Greetings Ozz,

All I see on the main page is "Sign Up" and "Login". On all sub-pages I see my username and "Log out". Perhaps what I need to do is log out and log in from the main page. I'll give that a try if'n I can remember my password. ;)

Thanks and have a great day Ozz. :)

Siran

[edit]Ok, that did not work. I still only see "Sign Up" and "Login" on the main page. I even reloaded the main after I re-logged in. Still no go. Perhaps I'll get rid of the tab and restart the website on a new one. Yeah, let's see if'n that works...[/edit]

[edit2]Nope! That did not work either. Oh well. I guess I'll just get to my account from a sub-page.[/edit2]

Depends on what you're looking for, Rick.

https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_user.php?userid=138830 is your account that everyone can see by clicking on your name.
https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/home.php is Your Account that can only be gotten into by logging in.

Its links are available from Project->Account and by clicking on one's name, both when logged in. They aren't available when not logged in. Then only Sign Up and Login are visible.

If you still see only Sign Up and Login when you're actually logged in, this may be a bug.
If you tried to log out and back in already and that didn't fix it, it may still be a residual cookie.

So for a next test, log out, remove your Seti@Home 'auth' cookie, exit the browser and restart it, then log back in.

If that doesn't fix it, tell which browser you use. I'll send it off in a pigeon to David then. :)

Greetings Jord,

Something seems to be amiss. If I am logged in, I have a Setiathome 'auth' cookie. If I log out and then search for the cookie, it is no longer in the list. If I log back in, the cookie returns.

I have logged in and clicked the "home" button, the Seti@Home logo on the far left of the menu bar, and can see my username and "Logout" on the main page. I can see "Account" on the project drop down. If, after logging in, I click my back button to get to the main page, all I see is "Sign Up" and "Login" and the Project drop down does not show "Account". I have reloaded the main page that only shows "Sign Up" and "Login" while logged in and that is still all I see, no username or "Logout".

While still logged in I have closed the tab that Seti is on, opened a new tab and brought up the Seti website, all I see on the main page is "Sign Up" and "Login" and the drop down does not show "Account". All sub-pages will show my username and "Logout" while I am logged in and the Project drop down shows "Account".

I do not have a cookie for Seti if I am not logged in, only when logged in. I am using the most current version of Firefox on Win7 Pro 64bit. Firefox was just updated a couple days ago.

I hope the above descriptions make what I see understandable. :) I tried to be as specific as I could.

Have a great day, Jord. :)

I see that as well, and think that is the caching function of Firefox that does that. It'll show the page as it was prior to you making changes.

The same effect can be seen by doing the opposite on the old forums style, e.g. here at CPDN: https://www.cpdn.org/cpdnboinc/forum_index.php
If not logged in, log in.
Next log out, you'll be automatically transported to their front page, so now without logging in, back-button and you'll be on their forums and showing as logged in, but you aren't. All because of caching.

Hi Jord,

Yeah, I have seen that on other sites I log into as well.

So... I cleared the cache in Firefox, reloaded the website, nothing. I cleared the cache again, this time after logging out, logged back in went back to the main page, nothing. I cleared the cache, shut down Firefox, re-opened it, re-loaded the website, nothing. I still see "Sign Up" and "Login" and no "Account" on the Project drop down.

On this page, no problem! My username is up there right beside "Log out". The Project drop down has "Account" on it. I don't believe it's a cache problem.

This has me really baffled. What difference is there between re-loading the main page and clicking the Home logo? Nothing! Both actions do the same thing, basically. I don't know. I'm about to just accept it as it is and not think about it. I just hate having to go to a sub-page in order to get to my account page. And I'm not going to bookmark my account page. That would be redundant. ;)

Thanks Jord and have a great day! :)

One loads the site from cache, the other loads the page from the server. Sounds weird, but you can even see that when you study the load icon on the tab. Pressing the logo, the animated load icon shows for maybe a second, while pressing 'reload page' it shows for two or more seconds (I had it at one point for 12 seconds).

how to create profile asking 1.0 credit

Connect your computer to the SETI@Home project.

Download and process some work units.

Once work units have been processed, if the results agree with a second computer (wingman), you will be granted credit.

Once you have credit of more than 1 you can create a profile.

It is set up this way to stop spammers.

I am sure you knew that though.
