Why am I not getting enough tasks?

Hi, I know that seti@home goes down every Tuesday for maintenance. So I tried to change my settings so that my computer wasn't sitting idle for several hours while the servers are down. I upped the number of 'Store at Least' days, but the number of tasks never got over 100. Now it is at 0. Anyone know what I am doing wrong? Thanks, M Badgero |

Seti has a hard limit on tasks it allows computers to store. This limit is 100 tasks per CPU and 100 per GPU. This is done so that the database doesn't grow too much out of proportions, which causes instability problems through which the whole thing can crash - happened before. At the moment there's no work, because the database server is down. See the server status page for that. As far as I know, they had trouble with getting the kernel updated, and are going back to the previous version. |

Thank-you very much. I thought the server was back up. Usually when its down, I can't even log into my account. My GPU is running eight tasks concurrently, and 100 tasks runs out after a few hours of server down-time. So I might as well turn my computer off on my way to work on Tuesday. Thank-you very much. . . Hi Micky, . . I may make myself unpopular by saying this but if you enable CPU processing and allow one of your CPU cores to crunch you will get an extra 100WUs in your allotment. Only using one CPU core means they will be processed slowly. If you talk to Stubbles69 about requeueing tasks, when your GPU runs out or gets very low you can move tasks from your CPU cache(queue) to your GPU queue and keep it working. You can find out more about this in the "Number Crunching" area under the thread about requeueing. It is an idea you might find useful. . . But I must confess I am puzzled why you are running 8 concurrent tasks on your BTX1080. I would think 2, 3 or at most 4 would be needed to keep it fully utilised. Stephen . |
