It's been a while since I've contributed here. I usually run GPUGrid with Einstein as a backup, but since I've upgraded to Pascal cards (1080 & 1070) GPUGrid is currently unable to support my hardware. I see S@H has moved from v7 to v8. I only crunch SETI on GPU and the most noticeable differences so far are that all the tasks seem to be OpenCL rather than CUDA and VLARs have been added to the available task types for GPUs. I also see there is a new optimized app for v8, but it seems it was last updated in January. Is it compatible with Pascal cards? And if so, will running it give me any boost over the stock app? Apologies for asking a number of questions that have likely been answered in other threads. I looked for a while but couldn't find anything. |

Welcome back Matt, Yes Seti supports 1080 and 1070s. I run them on some other computers I have. The change in application stems from the introduction of the Breakthrough Listen Project. Since then, new data from new telescope has become available. But like anything new, new apps were needed. Current cuda can run that data but takes an excessively long time compared to the old Arecibo work units. Petri is working on a new Cuda app that shows high promise but unfortunately is still in alpha testing. Raistmer has introduced 2 different OpenCl apps. the sah and SoG apps. The sah app was the initial app but had some issues and was replaced by the current SoG app. Both are still being used here on Main. Unfortunately, at their default settings, they can and usually do use almost a complete CPU for each work unit. SoG continues to be modified by Raistmer and is currently on it's latest update for testing on the Beta site. Here on Main r3500 is the current version out. (unless you have free CPU cores but it sounds like you use your cores for other projects so I would recommend using one then) If you choose to go this route, let us know and we can help you with this. I downloaded v0.44 earlier from the Optimized Apps thread, but I'll give Richard's 0.45 Beta a shot since you've provided a link. I really don't know much about the command line variables, so any recommendations are very welcome! |

If you plan on using SoG, you need to decide if you can afford to use a full CPU for each work unit. Easiest commandline -use_sleep -sbs 512 -period_iterations_num 10 -hp If you can spare a full CPU core then you can remove the -use_sleep I'm sure others will volunteer commands you can use but these are the basic ones to decrease the time. If you notice lagging, increase period iterations upward. I believe the default is 50 Once Raistmer gets his new app done, the commandline will grow more, lol |
