I'm going to go completely against all my instincts and ask a question BEFORE I do something dumb. Usually, it's the other way around.

My account has been set to receive Astropulse work units for some time, but I've never received even one on any of my computers - a Q9650, an I5 and an I7. All have 8Gb of memory and 1Tb of disk space. In short, I would think I would have gotten one work unit by now on one of them.

In looking at the S@H files in the projects subdirectory, it looks like I'm missing some files. My plan is/was to finish up all my current S@H tasks, completely unload S@H, reboot everything and reinstall S@H from the BOINC site on the assumption that I will get a complete fileset.

Does this make sense? Will it help get Astropulse work? Who REALLY shot JR?

No, it makes no sense. SETI files are issued by SETI - they don't come with BOINC, so re-installing BOINC won't magic them into existence.

I must not have been as specific as I intended.

My plan is to download SETI@Home from the BOINC site; not to download BOINC again.

I understand that SETI files come from SETI.

No, now that I re-read my original question, I was more than specific enough in describing what I would like to do. The problem seems to be that you had difficulties understanding my description.

I'm sorry if I was a bit telegraphic in my previous reply, but it's still not making sense to me.

All you can get from the BOINC site is BOINC - the infrastructure (client and manager). You can't "reinstall S@H from the BOINC site" - the files aren't there.

There are two separate ways to get a full set of the necessary SETI files (including Astropulse), which is what you were originally looking for.

Either
Attach to the SETI@Home project, and request work to crunch. When work is allocated, and not before, all the necessary processing files will be supplied, too. So you would get the Astropulse application(s), and other files, the first time you are allocated AP work to crunch: the work comes first, with the tools coming as a by-product of having the work.

Or
You can install as many, or as few, of the application types available as you wish - manually, using a third-party tool known colloquially as the "Lunatics Installer". That would ensure that you had the applications, but it wouldn't help you to get assigned any Astropulse tasks. Astropulse is struggling a bit at the moment (see adjacent threads), and the few tasks that become available are snapped up very quickly indeed.

The Q9650 (ID 5056445) is the only rig which has Astropulse listed in Application Details.  The I5 and I7 do not.  In the task lists for these rigs, only SETI@home v8 v8.00 windows_intelx86 is shown.  Are you certain that AstroPulse v7 is selected in the "Run only the selected applications" section of the SETI@home preferences?

<EDIT>

My plan is/was to finish up all my current S@H tasks, completely unload S@H, reboot everything and reinstall S@H from the BOINC site on the assumption that I will get a complete fileset.

You can't download project files from there.  That list provides links to individual project websites, whence the respective project files are downloaded.

The main reason your machines are not getting Astropulse work is because the project has been issuing very little of it.

There isn't really any "install" for the SETI@home project files. Unless you are referring the using the Lunatics optimized application installer.

If you feel your local project files are damaged in some way you can simply hit the "Reset Project" button in BOINC. Then the application files will be downloaded as needed when your machine is issued new work.
