Hi All, I am building a machine specifically to crunch, I am testing the settings on my daily computer to max it out but cannot get it to do any serious work. Out of the 8 programs only 4 are showing up in the tasks and my computer does not seem to be struggling in the least. I changed the setting in the Boinc manager to run all the time and use almost all storage/ram/cpu but still my computer does not seem to struggle. I want to get the most out of my new machine so how do you get some serious crunching going on? |

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=8094919 Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50GHz Number of processors 2 Coprocessors --- So you should see only 2 CPU tasks "Running" and no GPU tasks It is not clear what you mean by "Out of the 8 programs only 4 are showing up in the tasks" Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

I meant to say projects(didn't know what to call them). So if I go into Boinc manager it will show I have 8 projects but when I go into tasks it only shows I am working on 4(does not show the other 4 at all). Is this the reason as to why why computer does not seem like it's busy doing something? I mean I just expected it to bog down my computer if I let it have free run. I have not noticed any difference at all even when I'm on the net and watching a movie at the same time. I am trying to figure out the best settings for a computer that will do nothing but crunch numbers. Thanks for the reply :) |

BOINC is intended to run as a low priority back ground task and not greatly affect using the computer at the same time. Even though you don't really notice it, your computer should be running at 100%. You would need to check CPU usage to see it. As for projects, each project has individual settings for percentage of total time to use. That is why you only see 4 of 8 currently running. Later you will see a different set of tasks running. |
