I had my main cruncher down for a bit while I proved in my latest R9 Nano and then added it to the watercooling loop. It's back and moving up in the Top Hosts ranking! Here is a posting of the build:

Very professionally done and you have a great work area with the proper precautions taken; The 4U case looks terrific too.

There is a lot of compute power here in those AMD cards; This will break top 10 easily soon.

System made it to top 5, but just as I leave for a business trip, I see the system is down. I suspect a Windows update with reboot. Now it will be down till I get back to the system. I clicked the box to delay installation of new features, but I guess that is not enough. Somehow I need to find a way to prevent a reboot unless I specify it.

I'm increasingly annoyed by Windows Update -- on my Windows 7 and Windows Vista crunchers I'm trying WuInstall in a scheduled task that I only run once a week; depending how reckless I get (or how annoyed I get by update interruptions) I might push it even less frequently.

I have tried many suggestions on how to prevent driver updates from Windows 10. Seems like this one actually works, but only for Win10pro:

Since this didn't work for me either I found another solution.
This is a slightly different approach however. (At least on Windows 10 Pro) you can use the Group Policy Editor to "prevent installation of devices that match (a list of IDs defined by you)". So you can enter the ID of the Device which causes problems and Windows won't be able to install ANY driver for this device (so make sure to have the right driver installed before enabling this, you won't be able to make changes either).
This is how to do it:

1) Run "gpedit.msc" > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation > Device Installation Restrictions > "Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device IDs"
2) Enter the device ID of the device for which you don't want any updates to be installed. The device ID can be found trough Device Manager > (your device) > Properties > Details > Hardware IDs. For me it was enough to enter one of the IDs found there.

I did a Windows update after this and it update AMD HDMI Audio driver, but did not touch the device driver. The system keeps failing the last major update for 1067, so maybe this behavior will change if it ever succeeds...

I`m using W10Privacy.
Its a german software now available in english as well.

You can disable everything and you will be surprised how much you need to disable.

I only use Win 10 for offline benches every once in a while so my host is not listed here at seti.

I use 4 things for privacy. 1st is O&O Shutup 10. 2nd is Spybot Anti-Beacon. And 3rd I use a Hosts file fromhttp://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm. 4th I have wired internet, so I use these instructions to set my connection as a "metered connection". So windows thinks I have to pay for every bit that goes onto the internet.

I do each in order. Maybe it's overkill' but it works for me.

I made the mistake of allowing a Windows update last night. I had looked through the list and didn't see an AMD GPU driver update, but later I realized that I did not scroll through the list and there actually was one. It crashed the system and I could not bring it up, so I had to reinstall Windows. Even though I have it set under System, Advanced Options to not install drivers for new HW, Windows ignores this. This makes it impossible to do a clean driver install. As soon as you uninstall drivers, within a minute, Win10 starts installing what it thinks it needs. I tried setting every Group Policy I could to prevent this, with no change. I finally got the system up last night...late, but BOINC manager wasn't downloading tasks. I waited for a while but finally gave up and went to sleep. Woke to find the system thinks I have 8 GPUs instead of the 4 I have enabled and every task was a Computation Error. Reinstalled BOINC after deleting all files (except configuration and WU files) and restarted, but still no tasks downloaded. Maybe I hit some limit of dumped tasks through out all of this. I think this is all I can take of Win10. I bought a new SSD and downloading Ubuntu now. I will spend the evening trying to bring the system back up. Couple of questions:
1) What files do I need to transfer over to the BOINC directory to retain my computer ID?
2) My first attempt at BOINC on Linux, so any advice would be appreciated.

The ProgramData folder is hidden by default. For simplicty I would look at grabbing the whole of the .../projects/* folder.

2 - Can't help you with anything more than the most basic about running under a modern Linux, but I do know you will probably not be able to use your windows cruncher ID without a great deal of sweat and tears...

My attempt to load Ubuntu on this system failed. As soon as it boots from USB, all USB2.0 ports become inoperative. Also, it is unable to access the SSD. I think there us something strange with this MB. I also had some issues when I loaded Windows from USB with all the GPU's enabled. I gave up and went back to Windows. I now have all GPUs enabled, but I am not able to download any work for the last day. Is it possibly a side affect of having lost so much work in the all the system issues I have had? Anyway to over come this?

I usually load SuSE Linux from a DVD which I have previously burned. I am running SuSE Leap 42.1 64-bit on the SUN WS and SuSE Linux 13.2 on the 32-bit HP laptop. I have loaded BOINC 7.2.4 and Virtual Box 5.1.8 on both. On the SUN I just loaded a flight simulator, FlightGear with only one airplane, a Cessna 172p. But I would need also a joystick to pilot it, piloting by keyboard and mouse is lousy.On the SUN I have also installed an ATI GPU board, HD 7770 which ia necessary to run both SETI@home and Einstein@home GPU tasks.

I finally got it to start downloading. As soon as I installed Lunatics, it started to download immediately. Looks like my system is back in action now.
