Does anyone else here watch this program? It started out two years ago about a US Navy destroyer and it's Captain who is charged with finding the cause of an a cure for a viral epidemic that ends up killing over 90% of the world's population. They find a cure for those who were not already dead and end up distributing it worldwide from the new US capitol in St. Louis.

This year the Captain is sent to southeast asia to find out why the cure isn't working and discovers there is a plot by the leader of China to kill off the remaining non Chinese population of Asia.

Meanwhile a secret group in the USA has successfully destroyed what remains of the US government and plans to replace it with 5 independent regions run by greedy politicians with plans to enslave the remaining population.

The program outline leaves a lot of unexplained gaps in the story but it very darkly paints a picture of what lies maybe not so deep beneath the surface around the world if organised government breaks down.

No, it is not outlandish, after all. But, it is not 5 regions... In real life, it would be 10.

These Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) regions are also used by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Also, in the event of an extremely bad catastrophe (serious enough to take out the Federal Government), these regions have the capability to assume command/control over their regions over the short term until (maybe) some 'national' command/control structure could be reconstituted. This includes contacts in the military command/control structure so that (surviving) military assets in each region could be effectively used to preserve social order (aka martial law).

And before any of you all get going and claim 'conspiracy theory'.... It ain't.

NCPIP = National Continuity Policy Implementation Plan.

George W. Bush wrote:
My fellow Americans,
On May 4, 2007, I issued the National Continuity Policy, an updated, integrated approach to maintaining a comprehensive and effective continuity capability to ensure the preservation of our constitutional form of government and the continuing performance of National Essential Functions under all conditions.

Ours is a Nation of laws, engaged in a war against terror. We recognize, and must prepare for, the possibility of unforeseen events, natural disasters, and acts of terror. We must be prepared as a Nation, as a Federal Government, and as individual citizens to preserve, protect, and defend our way of life. This National Continuity Policy Implementation Plan builds upon the National Continuity Policy and provides guidance to executive departments and agencies on appropriately identifying and carrying out their Primary Mission Essential Functions that support the eight National Essential Functions—the most critical functions necessary to lead and sustain the Nation during a catastrophic emergency. This Implementation Plan also seeks to ensure that our Nation’s efforts and resources will be brought to bear in a coordinated manner through integrated Continuity of Operations and Continuity of Government programs interwoven into routine, daily government operations. This Implementation Plan directs more than 75 critical actions, many of which have been initiated already, to ensure the effectiveness and survivability of our national continuity capability through any circumstance.

This Implementation Plan also articulates a recommitment of focus in the executive branch and highlights the importance of our partnership with the other branches of the Federal Government, other levels of government, and the private sector.

Working together, we will continue to prepare our Nation to confront the challenges of tomorrow.

Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016.

What was portrayed in the program was somewhat more sinister to the point of erecting walls between the regions.

No doubt it is... but, if the FEMA stuff ever happens... there wouldn't be much to prevent the same happening IRL too.

I've watched this show since it first came on air.
Loved every minute of it, and the writers are doing
an amazing job of peering into a possible Future.
It shows some of the US Military as saviors of humanity.
Great show.

[off-topic]
I like the newer tv-show "Braindead" as much.
A satirical-scifi on the extremism in US politics in Washington.
If you're short on time watch episode Braindead 1X10.

What is "IRL"? BTW England didn't fare any better during the pandemic than anyplace else. In the second season a pirated British submarine chased the Nathan James until the James sank it. The crew of the sub weren't regular British sailors with the exception of a couple of the officers.
