Well, after running a while, the Laptop is locking up with CPU Utilization; it's hitting 100%. I think the cause is ClimatePrediction.net running 6 tasks at once?! To fix the problem, went to 50% of the CPUs & 100% of CPU time. that has reduced it to 60-90% CPU Utilization. We'll see how this works. ...CPN can be a bit like that, massive long deadlines, and really humungous datasets. If you want to restrict its activities then go onto your account on the CPN website and reduce its resource share - by default all projects run at the same level (1000 I think), if you drop this for your "lesser interest projects" to a small number work from them will cut in and out without too much of a problem. Another trick is to set a project resource share to zero, what this does is make that a standby project, if there is no work available from your main projects this one will cut in, but only enough work to keep your processors in work. I think that makes sense, but if it doesn't ask again! (btw, Don't forget SETI will be heading into a ~6 hour outage in a few hours time - it generally starts at about 8am California time, depending on who is in first and what other work they have to do) Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

I just decided to quit the climateprediction project for now, all tasks are over due by a month, even though they just d/l & every time they run, they also appear to be causing my hard drive to max out?! I just wanted to run some project & this is turning into a nightmare! All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. Edmund Burke (1729 - 1797) |

CPN tasks typically have deadlines of about a year - you wouldn't be the first (and probably won't be the last) to see the day & month but miss the year (tee shirt is a bit uncomfortable) Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

The Geek Squad recovered about 75% of data & I'm not sure I need to replace the 25%. I'll see how it goes All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. Edmund Burke (1729 - 1797) |
