Once again, the annual AirVenture event is flying high in Oshkosh, Wisconsin this year.
Home of the free and the landings of the brave. About 25 miles south of my home, as the crow flies.
Home of the parent company of Pierce Manufacturing where I build fire trucks all year long, Oshkosh Corporation.
Nothing like it anywhere else in the world.
I hear the increased air traffic over my house here.
Some unusual sounds from aircraft that do not generally occupy the skies overhead, although the Appleton airport is just about 15 miles west of my location.
Wonder if any Setizens shall be flying in.

EAA AirVenture.

I was just looking at a BD-5 on ebay. Toying with the idea of going this year. I have an invite from Icon. If I do I'll give you a ring Mark.

I went a couple of times, but only because I was able and wanted to ride a chartered Amtrak train there. The air show didn't really float my boat. Neither did the hot weather. The second time, I went back to the train early, bought some Tylenol in the lounge car, and slept for a couple of hours. I think that was my first experience with heat exhaustion.

I did enjoy staying on board after the rest of the passengers left while the train continued north to Neenah, where it turned on the wye and came back to Oshkosh. The tracks have since been removed north of the airport, so any future trip would have to find a different way to turn. <takes time to consult a map> Okay, not that hard. Back out a short distance and take the other route through town to rejoin the old route, then continue to Neenah.
