He should be above 40k after the Tuesday amintenance...likely around ~45k by my estimate.

Stephen: 44,494 cr an hour after maintenance.
So not so bad for not using a calculator...and I was extremely sleepy! :-)

Who was it that was sleepy?!? :-p
(I'll give you the benefit of the doubt since I should have put a comma: 44,494 cr, an hour...)

Btw, I was looking at the SG WoW user page
Your speed is fast enough to make it to the 2nd page in a day or 2, before I fall there myself (as I'm in 38th and slowly falling in the rankings).
But if you play with your NV_SoG settings too much, you might hit a bump and find yourself in the page3 ditch! lol

I should be on p2 within the next 12hrs
My guess is we'll end WoW in the bottom half of p2.
I'd be happy with rank 77 for my 1st WoW.
So get out of the p3 ditch and back to crunching 40+k/day :-p

So...if I have understood well the mechanism of "bunkering" (caching the worked WU and "releasing" them all at once when WOW has started) the userID "Freezing", will finish the WOW probably within the first 5 positions producing more or less 4k credits/hour ?
Or I am not aware of any joke/test/dummy ID in the competition ?
Hmmmm..I'm probably not in the loop, and this is an accepted behaviour but I honestly don't feel like it is fair.
It is like running the 100 yard sprint, with one runner starting 5 seconds and 20 yard before all the others, using the accumulated inertia to be ahead.

My 2 cents.

A.

P.S: yes, I'm becoming old&grumpy.... :-)

That's what happens when you don't read the rules before hand :-p
To collect pending credits before race start is not only allowed but welcome! The whole purpose is to do our utmost and work hard for SETI@home and thus provide invaluable support. So don't be afraid to start crunching for SETI@home with all of your available CPUs & GPUs before the race starts.

It's my 1st WoW. I just happen to be testing a specific scenario with Mr Kevvy's GuppiScheduler that allowed me to cache upto 1000 tasks 4 days before WoW to start with a small bang (as compared to Freezing).
Obviously, Freezing used other means than a DeviceQueueOptimizer.
From my perspective, the hardware is fairly much like a "constant" in programming with slight variations. Those with deeper pockets can buy their way to the top.
It is the software (in this case the human kind) that is the real "variable".
As Zalster said: expect a few more surprises before the end of WoW.

Rob :-)

Yes, I totally agree, it is my fault ! ;-)
The arena, was there, the spectators as well, TV&radio, plus a shiny 100 yard track along with the competitors...what I did not expected was that the timekeeper was drunk, the tracks 1, 2 and 5 were scattered with pieces of broken glass and optionally you could use a hypercharged segway to sprint.
As I was suspecting, my idea of a 15 days competition in which trying to keep the critters online as much as possible, was wrong, and thank you Rob to point me to the rules I did not read... :-)

Please no ! Enough with the surprises... :-D

Happy crunching !!

I haven't heard anything specific about future surprises...but my guess is:
some top25 crunchers take out of storage their old loud rigs that consumme much more electricity for the last few days...and if they can also pull a Freezing with that, expect to see some cash in 1+ million credits from Bunkering.
You might want to come up with something if you plan on making it into the top10 and staying there!

As for me, I'm happy with my 9th position at T+2hrs...and looking at all the top pimps pass me by as I slowly fade to page2!
All in the fun of science :-D
Cheers,
Rob :-)

Hi GazzaVR,

I am a real person and how Stubbles69 already explained, there is no cheating at all ;)
I would not be in the top 10 if I didn´t start bunkering 6 weeks before the WOW event startet … I don´t have that much constant power to fight with the big ones ^^
Thank you for your support in this discussion, Stubbles69.
Cheers,
Freezing

No problem Freezing, as already stated I mistook the goal of this contest...( and didn't read the rules)...I'm getting old ;-)

Looks like BojanR just "bunkered" you and knocked you from #1.

BojanR is a Million + producer before the WOW. It's not surprising that he would over take Freezing after 4 days. No bunkering there, just a heck of a lot of computers chugging out work...

There is nothing better than raw brute force computer crunching. :D

. . La Bamba es muerto.

. . That rig has died on me and I am too ill to deal with it at the moment. So I will be stuck in that ditch for at least a few days. Or if worse comes to worst until I can afford a new rig for the 970s. Murphy's law alrighty. I should have just left it running with the one 970 while it was working :(

. . Hey Stubbles if you're around. Good news ... La_BAMBA lives. Nothing would kick it off so I ditched the SSD and Win10, the second 970, and even the memory upgrade. Now back to the old HDD (which luckily I had previously re-formatted), Win7 and the original PC2-5300 RAM (sadly only 2GB) and finally it lives. It is not so fast anymore but seems far more stable than it has been for a while now. Win10 was a mistake but who knew in advance there would be no Win10 drivers for the NForce4 SLI chipset :(. If it continues to remain stable I might try re-elevating it to the PC2-6400 RAM (I have 8GB of that) and see it it will remain stable. It had been before going to Win10.

. . If that works and remains stable then I might even try the second 970 one more time. I can live with it slowing down a little more if I can get both GPUs productive. I would love to see it doing some serious numbers.

. . Anyway, for the moment I am able to add a little more Oomph to the Leo Group.

Stability is always better than speeding straight into a ditch!

You might want to consider starting a thread in Number Crunching.
There's quite a few hardware gurus that can guide you, especially wrt waiting a bit or trying it right now.

Glad to see the old rig has a few more crunching days left in it!
Keep calm and... Crunch on!

. . Ultimately the total throughput should be better than having it frozen for hours on end when I am out or asleep.

. . I am more inclined to change one thing at a time and be sure it is good before moving on to more changes. I made the mistake of doing the Win10 update and adding the 970s at the same time and it wasn't pretty :(

Glad to see the old rig has a few more crunching days left in it!

. . That is my intent, now that I am finally feeling a bit better. The Doc finally prescribed the right medicine so I felt well enough to attack the rebuild today :) Next week we take over the world ... Umm no wait that's "Pinky and the Brain"
