Hey folks, i am very surprised that my GT640 (4 to 5 times slower than my GTX 670) is not only slow, but really super super slow on opencl_sah workunits. Could someone explain this, i got no clue to make this thing faster on this workunits. On the gtx it takes about 1,000 seconds, thought it will take 5,000 seconds, but its about 10,000 !!! Won´t believe that. OK SOLVED: GOT AN ERROR on this workunits, now it´s clear...truely NOT. Wrong workunit, completed without error, but over 10,000 seconds to run... Any guesses what happens there ? Greets Got only a gpu usage of 30 to 60 % of the nvidia GT 640, the GTX looking normal. |

The GT 640 is a very slow card. I bought one last year for testing purposes. Without any app args no surprise at all. You should at least use -sbs 256 in comand line.txt file. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

oh, thanks for the reply, i will imedeatly config that, perhaps it will do it. edited , i will restart the client an watch it. looks like stinking in a deep swamp, i´ll try this card in a diffent PCIe slot. Can´t believe it crunches so badly... 1 to 2 % gpu usage, LOL , i think it died right before my eyes, i try another PC. |

Full load on another pc, gremlins !? So far, but i have to wait for opencl_sah workunits... Even some utilities don´t work anymore on my main pc, like Kepler BIOS Editor and others. Thought i did the right install on it (just 2 weeks old). |

Hello The_Matrix, From looking at Shaggi76e's incredible charts, we finally have something that allows us to classify GPUs as high-end, mid-range, and low-end. If we split by cr/hr into 3 simple categories then we get: 1. high-end: >600 cr/hr; AMD Hawaii and above (on chart) 2. mid-range: 300-600 cr/hr; starting at GTX 750 Ti 3. low-end: <300 cr/hr; ending at GTX 750 Others might choose diff cutoffs. All this to state: the GT640 is low-end (for me) in productivity when running stock apps with no commandline. As for the GT640 and opencl_sah, that combo might be a bad one. I hope this helps in putting things into perspective. Cheers, Rob ;-) |

As usual posting links to results under question will help a lot. Check stderr of that super-slow task - does it have "LowPerformancePAth" enabled? What app's rev? Stock 8.12? If so it' known issue and will be fixed in next rev. Also worth to check support thread for 8.12 app to get some impression what is known and how deal with that. r k http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=5046002781 LowPerformanceGPU path: yes app 8.12 i am sorry when others don´t effect it, but i am also thinking SOON my mainboard will go down the river. Not yet but soon, as i see what happens all the time with my PCIe bus settings. is that good for a kepler gpu ?: FERMI path used: yes |

For low-performance GPU path use_sleep enabled with 5ms per iteration Try to upgrade to r3486 or add -use_sleep_ex 1 to your current command line for 8.12. SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them. |

Stick a fan on it and overclock it. |

Changes have been made to SoG.txt file... http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=5046974830 hab to stop this one. can´t get SAH workunits, but got SoGs , and it must be the app whos responsible for these faults. On Asteroids@home and cuda , no issues. Full load of the gpu. |

Stick a fan on it and overclock it. It´s aint a passiv cooled gpu, overlocking , sure i did +200Mhz on the gpu core. XD |

Hi....for comparison this is my GT 640 nVidia with GDDR3 memory on board... https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=5039798809 Marco. |

700 gflops ? ok, then i must have bricked the cuda instructions somehow. I flash another BIOS to the card. |

don´t know what to say, BOINC client shows 692 gflops, board table says 104.4 gflops... running 2 wus SoG at 70% gpu usage... |

You have to free at least one core, preferably two to get more GPU usage. I also have a GT 640 and it is running >95% usage with only one WU, same applies to AP-WUs. Aloha, Uli |

1.5 cores free, usage raised only 3 %. Think that was it, this card no more good for only some middleclass games now, but no more for cunching. I build in my last AMD card. Thanks all for ur advice and tips. |

1.5 cores free, usage raised only 3 %. Think that was it, this card no more good for only some middleclass games now, but no more for cunching. The 640 appears to be working nearly normal with the CUDA App. This result is around what you would expect from that card, https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=5046753244 Name: blc4_2bit_guppi_57451_68700_HIP117559_0021.20858.831.17.26.222.vlar_1 Run time: 1 hours 22 min 22 sec CPU time: 3 min 32 sec The problem with the Low End nVidia GPUs and the Current OpenCL Apps is a known problem. A newer Windows build helps those running Windows, but CUDA will probably still work better on the Low End GPUs such as the ones with only 2 Compute Units. |

The 640 appears to be working nearly normal with the CUDA App. ok, i am always bored ;) i´ll give it a try and install the GT640 + Lunarics and run only cuda 5.0 app. We´ll see. |

It´s aint a passiv cooled gpu, overlocking , sure i did +200Mhz on the gpu core. XD Well, then it's no wonder, the results are corrupted. That's way too much. Aloha, Uli |
