The military overtook Turkish state broadcaster TRT station.
Turkey military says "it has taken over authority to maintain democracy and human rights "
Now TRT goes off air.

I thought that as it did not happen
over a year ago, then it was not going to
happen at all. I am surprised and saddened.

Erdogan, a petty authoritarian. Bad.
Military coup of someone democratically elected? Probably bad as well.

It seems that the coup attempt failed.

The Turkish army is divided and this coup was started by some army units acting in a way not sanctioned by the Turkish Army Command.

The Police have now arrested many of the coup militaries.

Regarding who is behind the attempted coup in Turkey, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim also spoken out. He said, according to Reuters, that there is a coup attempt against the government from the rebels who are supporters of the US-based Muslim group Fethullah Gulen.

A man has put himself in front of the military tanks outside the Ataturk airport in Istanbul.

It by no means that the coup is over, even if the loyalist instances of Turkish society thinks so.

AYM it looks as though the coup has failed. The results may be brutal.

2,745 judges were fired across the country today.
The authorities have requested a total of 48 members of the Administrative Court should be seized as well as 140 members of the country's appeals court.
That Erdogan has "autocratic ambitions" is well known.

We, meaning the USA, should consider getting all of our weaponry out of Turkey ASAP before they go down the same road as Iran.

The question has to be, "How much does the US/NATO need those bases to keep an eye on the region?". Is there any real alternatives?

Meanwhile Turkey is shutting off access to Incirlik - and so stopping the US jets conducting sorties against IS.
