I've installed boinc via yum from I think epel or rpmforge. I've now started reading about astropulse but all references say it will auto download. I've got nothing. The manager is running I'm doing seti@home tasks but I see nothing astropulse related.

On a separate note, where would I start looking to create a config file for boinc. I would like to run flat out at night but switch to 25% cpu during the day. I figure I could use two config files and switch them via cron.

Thanks,
Don

Found this in another thead:

"AstroPulse isn't an application you launch. BOINC will automatically download the executables for AstroPulse when you get a workunit for it, then BOINC will launch AstroPulse to crunch it. You just sit back and let it run."

My preferences are to run Astropulse but it never seems to. Is there a way to see if my boinc client has the capability to download it built in, how do I troubleshoot this?

Think I'll try running strace against it at startup.

AstroPulse tasks are only available from new "tapes" from the Arecibo telescope, and are very rare just now due to the lack of new data coming from that source. Most, if not all, AMD & Intel CPUs are capable of running AstroPulse tasks, so it is just a case of waiting for them to arrive. Do not be alarmed at the run time, typically 3 to 10 times that of a "normal" task.

Thanks Bob. So you think the binary will download if/when my boinc-client can get some data?

Also found the Advanced Users page at:

https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ap_advanced.php

which has the binary except I don't seem to have the app xml file. I'll need to figure it out when I get back from vacation.

As long as your operating system is recognized as some version of Linux, you'll be sent the application automatically, but only when actual Astropulse are available. Which they aren't at the moment. And may not be for a long time, as they aren't split yet from the Breakthrough Listen data.

The admins on this project are thinking of trying out an Astropulse application on the BL data, but that isn't sure yet and it needs to be tested (at Seti Beta) first.

Whether or not APs are available can be gleaned from the Server status page, the Astropulse column should then show a number higher than zero for the Results ready to send.
