Twice today I've had to re-log in to my account to access the website. Does anyone else ever have this problem, or is it possibly a server issue?

I haven't had to log in again. So perhaps that something on your system overzealously deletes cookies, or you have your browser set to discard of them on closing down.

I suspect it might be a Windows Internet Explorer browser glitch even though I let it keep the cookies.

I primarily used Internet Explorer before getting Edge with Windows 10 and I never had to log in after the Tuesday outages.

I've never heard of Edge, but I'm running an experiment on my iMac to see if I stay logged in via Safari.

Edge is the new MS browser that comes with Win 10.

Well, I heard it here first. That's a new one on me.

Still running Windows 7 on two computers, and don't plan to upgrade until I actually buy new hardware.

I do use Chrome for some browsing, but IE is still my default.

Message 1793194 - Posted: 3 Jun 2016, 19:46:32 UTC

My update on this situation is that I installed Windows 10 on our two PC's, and the one I rarely use is still logged in, and my iMac is still logged in, but the main computer I use still hiccups every few days and I have to log in again. So... doesn't seem to be a SETI problem. It's my main computer, but I don't know why, especially since it's had a new version of Windows installed, so it should be the same system as the other PC which doesn't have the log-in issue.

It's simple: as per Message 1787070
- something on your system deletes cookies (Do you use some "cleaner" program? Do you use the same Antivirus with same Settings on all computers?)
- you have your browser set to discard or block cookies (Do you use some extension/add-on in the browser that may do this?)

The password (in fact 'account key') is remembered in a browser cookie:
Name: auth
Content: {your 'account key'}   http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/weak_auth.php
Domain: setiathome.berkeley.edu

... and this cookie have (normally) life of one year:

Expires: March 3, 2017 at 7:20:10 AM

P.S.
You didn't tell exactly which browsers do you use on your computers (you mentioned "Internet Explorer" but is this the browser you use now?)
If "Internet Explorer" have something like "incognito" mode/window - in that mode no cookies or history is preserved.
(Any Chromium clone (I use SRWare Iron/IronPortable and Slimjet Browser) have "incognito" mode invoked by Ctrl+Shift+N)

I don't use IE (and "my IE" is the old Windows XP version) so don't know if something like "incognito" mode exists in it.

I use the latest version of IE on both Windows 10 computers, and Safari on my Macintosh.

I have the same antivirus and antimalware settings on both Windows computers.

I'm running browsers in default mode on all three computers, with no user changes.

It's a puzzle.
