i am experiencing issues with mach 0084 as it will not boot up .. i have narrowed it down to the hard drive although it may be bad sectors .. in any event i apologize to all the wingpersons it will affect

well, well, well .. it would appear that good old Microsoft is responsible for jacking my ability to boot this machine up as i installed update KB3133977 for win7 .. running an ASUS mainboard this update causes a SECURE BOOT VIOLATION !!

Seeing things like this and their forcing W10 down ppls throats even when they are doing everything in their power (hiding known updates but then having them re-released so they become unhidden and then if you're not eagle eyed to catch them again, Here Comes 10!) to avoid it, that kind of thing, makes me _really_ wish that Linux and I were on better terms. I've tried it probably 3-4 times since I bought my first copy of Redhat, I think it was ver. 5 around 15 or more years ago (it's still sitting on a shelf downstairs), and I just can't seem to get my head around it, especially when it comes to updates and installing stuff. I SO want to like it, but I must just be too thick, because I can't seem to deal with it's peculiarities for long, and then toss in the towel and format the drive.

Sorry about your problems, are there any documented fixes for your situation? Took a quick look around, at least there is a workaround: After installing Microsoft Update KB3133977 for Windows 7, some users may encounter a "Secure Boot Violation" , which makes the system fail to boot into the operating system. It's been quite a while since I've bought a new board and set up a new system, just did it for the first time a couple months ago, and the UEFI drove me nuts, along with the newest style flash HD, that thing is completely half baked at this point. I finally got it the OS installed, but it was by doing something like their workaround, disabling UEFI and running it in normal mode. Which I will continue to do as long as the option/setting is available. Obviously no plans on going to 8.1 or 10, so it's 7 for me FTW! lol

*edit* ...and yet MS wants, actually no, it Forces its users to have automatic updates enabled if they have the privilege of running Win 10. When foisting crap like this on their end users. Unbelievable.

you should try linux mint mate very easy to install and run most of it is windows like but without the aggravation ...and it's fast

software manager easy to use so are updates ..point and click

So no command line, pick a program to run this file type of thing? One click video driver updates and such? Hmm, may have to check it out, Ubuntu wasn't all that it was cracked up to be, and I can't stand the Unity interface. Never understood the appeal of it.

pretty much point and click driver updates too you can choose video driver etc in driver mamager

make sure you use linux mint mate edition

i have come to the conclusion that microsoft doesn't play well with others anymore and have spent way to much time trying to research and fix issues associated with flawed updates .. i have to wonder if its not a deliberate attempt on their part .. as this machine is my daily driver and needing to tie up loose ends it was important to get it up and running again under win7 .. although Linux is a learning curve for me, i have one machine converted and i expect this one will be as well

We all know that win gets developed by first creating a problem then build the OS around it and then call it a feature
