one of the oldest cedar trees in the UK I think I spotted it. It has a lower branch that looks like it'd be great for sitting on a summer day. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

At the end of this past May, I planted a mail-order mimosa tree, and the little twig is doing well... May 27th, 2016: June 12th 2016: Sept. 2nd 2016: The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

The tree called ‘Adonis’ is the oldest living inhabitant in Europe. The Bosnian Pine tree is more than 1,075 years old and has witnessed empires thrive and fall since it was born centuries ago. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/speaking-of-science/wp/2016/08/19/this-tree-might-be-the-oldest-living-thing-in-europe/ |

Oldest living tree, at 5066 years old, is the oldest known living non-clonal organism on Earth.[4] In 1987, the bristlecone pine was designated one of Nevada's state trees. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinus_longaeva Now if you want the oldest colony, the Pando(Tree) is 80,000 years old, take that Methuselah... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pando_%28tree%29 Now here's a Judean Date Palm tree, from a really old seed, like 2,000 years old. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judean_date_palm The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

"Old Tjikko" on Fulufjället is estimated to be at least 9,550 years old, making it the world's oldest known individual vegetatively cloned tree. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Tjikko Here is Rasmus in front of "Old Rasmus" on Sonfjället also at least 9500 years old. Tjikko and Rasmus says Arf Arf:) |

Suspected arson attack against the famous highway E4 oak north of Uppsala! It has various names, ranging from "The Lone Oak" to "That Damn Tree At E4 Everyone Harping On" |

Did you read the Wiki you linked. It's not the oldest individual tree. It's a clonal tree, not an individual. And there are older colonals. The oldest individual tree was Methuselah, a 4,845-year-old Great Basin bristlecone pine (Pinus longaeva) in the White Mountains of California. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Tjikko |

Yes. I read it. I also read the Swedish one that explain it further. The tree is, according to tests conducted by researchers from Umeå University, the oldest known individual tree clone. From the ground around the tree four samples was taken of wood residues using carbon 14 dating found to be 375, 5660, 9000 and 9550 years old. All turned out to be from the same individual. https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Tjikko However the tree's stems live no more than 600 years. Pando's stems average age is about 130 years. https://idw-online.de/de/news255795 |

Some of the locals. Kauri Pine One that size is 1000+ years Rimu (Red Pine) Another long lived forest tree. I do have one down in the back garden, it's grown to about 10ft tall, in 10 years. Worry about it getting too big in another 200 or so. Pohutukawa (NZ Christmas Tree) A coastal tree, very tolerant to wind and salt. Flowers like that in the middle of summer (Christmas time here) when everyone goes to the beach anyway. Winter gets too cold to grow them where I live. |

I had a Ginkgo when I lived in Solvang. It is a nice tree. Here is a spring morning from my mother in laws dinning room. She passed over the weekend, so the home will likely be sold soon. |

I think I'm going to get one of these: Gingko trees are lovely and they put on a beautiful autumn display in our area, but make sure you order a male Gingko tree and not a female one. (Yes, some trees have different sexes... who knew, right???!!!) Anyway, the male trees just drop leaves. The female trees also drop fruit that is inedible, slippery and stinky as it rots. |

I think I'm going to get one of these: I wonder if the nurseries only stock males? The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

One good way to tell if the shop sells only male trees, just go to the edge of the parking lot and check what ones of the Ginkgo tree are growing there... edit: Some shop owners think that after you leave their place they won't see you ever again.... |
