The politics forum is becoming useless to use as an actual forum for serious political discussion.
Because there are a few who will take any attempt at serious though polite discussion, and turn it inside out.
And then just continue to use it for their own amusement.

Then they just continue a rabid discourse between their own kind that often has little to do with the original question.

So, I an not coming here any more.
You can all play with yourselves.

Oh Mark, if you hate every one you disagree with by the time you are my age
you would end up hating every one you know. If you hate every one you know
then you won't have any one left to love in your life.
I bet that even some married people have disagreements, think of the tragedy
if that also meant that they would than have to hate each other.
Honest dissent, and discussion does not also mean mutual hate. The world
just does not work well that way.

:):)

I quite agree with you Mark. That's one of a few reasons why I stopped posting in here. I'm not sure if we agree on who those few people are that turn every thread into their own personal playgrounds, but suffice it to say that no conversation, and therefore no communication, will expand the minds of others willing to listen and learn.

I don't think Mark's talking about heated disagreements or outright hatred. It sounds like he's simply saying that a few people around here ruin the discussion for everyone. Sure, many good conversations take their turns away from the original topic, but lately it has gotten real bad and often devolves into personal comments or attacks.

I like to read more than I like to post, but things sure do seem to go in circles a lot, and the circles get smaller and smaller because the tone goes negative. If there were more people expressing thanks for a point that was made, or just more acceptant of different pov's, it would definitely be a more enjoyable read.

Greetings,

I have to agree with Mark and Ozz.

I left the Cafe SETI long ago; many years ago. I only slide in now and again just to see if there is any improvement. All I see is things like my country getting ripped for something that happens here that happens as much or more in another country or countries. You know what they say about people who live in glass houses... :)

Keep on BOINCing...! :)

[edit]OOPS, This is Politics and not Cafe SETI. But, the sentiment is just the same.[/edit]

kind of Happy that they have the option/opportunity.

I believe that the opportunity to speak out is valuable in it self!

Whether things go perfectly smoothly or not, this venue does provide a place where people from all countries can speak what is on their mind. I would much rather have that available, than not. Even if not a single person agreed with what I say.

(I 'apologize in advance' for discussing a person indirectly, as such...)

I think that Mark just creates negative Threads to get people to respond to him.
Mark doesn't usually start new threads unless he's feeling especially lonely/vulnerable.

I've noticed this seems to have happened in the past year... Previous threads, even when they had largely negative sections in response to something or other, had a decent chance of starting off in a good mood...

Isn't this the result of allowing such things to continue? (Not using the 'Red X', not saying 'keeping this on track', not standing up against certain tactics?)

You know, Mark is having a huge credit on this project.

Also he is not afraid to tell that he believes in a God.

Whether or not doing such a thing or perhaps not and if so by means of doing this by using the scientific method is perhaps a subject which still may be open.

Then we could be left to either speculate or perhaps debate what the scientific mehod itself is supposed to be about.

In my own opinion it should be wrong to either believe or not believe in the notion of God regardless of a given attitude when carrying out science by means of being either an atheist, agnostic, or maybe even a believer.

Religion and the notion of belief in a God you may be having is not necessarily always about science, even though some scientists may think that such a thing could be carried out on the subject.

Religion could be about compassion at times. Any lack of a similar compasssion most likely does not make it more about the subject of religion, rather much less.

If ethics and moral at times is being part of the Justice system, we should also know that Judas became the disciple who betrayed Jesus against the Romans, leading to his crucifixion.

We do not even know whether or not any sentencing or judgement was happening before this event took place.

In fact we most likely are not able to prove whether or not this event actually ever took place.

Agree 100%

If you agree, then it would be nice if you would discontinue the practice, regardless if you think you are only responding in kind.

heated disagreements

Isn't there bound to be heated disagreements if some people, and I'll include Mark here, who post opinions which don't fit the facts. And then when asked to justify their claims, either fail to reply, repeat themselves or post some equally unjustifiable claim.

And not going to http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/edit_forum_preferences_form.php scrolling down to the section "message filtering" and using that section. The board becomes quite readable when the handful of usual suspects are gone. Of course that is an adult thing and requires an adult level of thinking. ;)
