someone driving by the posts will not know that and may make assumptions about the place. Also the more there are, it will attract more and the more likely abuse of this generous standard will happen. I understand your point. In the grander scheme of things, I don't think thread topics really matter to most people who connect to the SETI project for number crunching. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

I think it takes a lot of courage to swallow one's pride and ask for help publicly, and to allow oneself to be judged by others in doing so. A sign of strength of a group of people is their willingness to come together and help each other out. It is up to each person reading to decide if they can, and are able and willing to help. If not, no one is making anyone do anything, including reading these types of threads. -Fred SETI Forums Admin |

BladeD: I appreciate your concern for Vic's thread. I have had threads of my own go off topic and it's a wee bit upsetting. It is perfectly fine if Vic wants to delete my post. If he had, I'd only want him to send me a PM about it. I've done the same in threads I created. I've seen his response that he's okay with my post. As far as having my own GoFundMe thread, people see it and decide to donate or not. At that point they start to ignore the thread, as one would expect. What's the point of revisiting if you've already decided you could or could not help out? None, imho. I jumped into Vic's thread to let people know that my GFM goal is still far from being reached. Just a little reminder, that's all. Wiggo: I disagree, but then the only way we'd know for sure would be to ask, or to wait for someone new to say something. I've only seen three people (myself included) post a fundraising request for themselves (vs. for a non-profit organization), that I recall. Have there been more? ~Sue~ |

Disaster!! This motherboard has an efi bios, so I can not load win 7 pro on this motherboard without losing everything on my hdd, plus 1 or 2 of my win dvds may not be usable. To save this windows install I need to get a motherboard that is more like what I had before, so tonight is out, I have to clean the Corsair H70 and clean the Zotac gtx580 Infinity, then install both plus the 16GB of G.skill Ripjaws X in tbe EVGA P55 FTW, I'd wish that was an ASUS Maximus Extreme motherboard, which I think still exists on ebay, but so far I don't what it takes to buy that motherboard, that sould fix my pc for sure, since the old motherboard is an ASUS P7P55D-PRO, just one step below the Maximus Extreme motherboard, both use the same type P55 chipset and bios, I will have to find the ASUS again to know how much it is with shipping and/or tax, if any of either one. Ok my short term memory strikes again, the ASUS Maximus III Extreme is on Amazon, not on ebay, the price? $350.00 plus $4.49 shipping or $354.49 delivered, I could possibly get a 1366 motherboard for less, though I'd have to canabalize my ASUS Rampage III Extreme of its 940 cpu, both work, just not on air, at present, there was one today that could have made mine work on air again, but i think that one is gone, so its the EVGA P55 FTW motherboard I guess since that has a Xeon x3480 cpu in it already... and I have no ethernet driver for the P55 FTW... ethernet isn't always done the same, some makers will use what is from Intel and some don't, on ethernet working I have a 50% chance of success, same for audio. I am going to do some research on this, chipset drivers all P55's share, though ethernet and audio, is hit and miss, like in the game: BATTLESHIP... If nothing else I have some heat in here tonight. :) Sigh... Damned if I do and damned if don't... The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

So far not a lot is out there, sure there is an ASUS P7P55D Deluxe on Amazon for $169.99 plus shipping or almost $185 delivered, that is almost an exact match, but I'm going to see what the EVGA P55 FTW will do, this ASUS x79 will get a 250GB 10,000 rpm WD raptor hdd instead. What I need is a pci-e card that has a 40pin eide/pata interface, since the one that I have is physically stuck in a drive bay in a pc that I've built recently. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Asking for help if you actually need it is ok to me . Like a medical problem and buy that I mean a serious problem not covered by anything else or organisation . But asking for money to upgrade a computer or buy something you could buy if you just watched your penny's and gave up a few comforts for a while is wrong and offensive to those of us that actually go without for a bit to get said items I do have a personal dislike at begging but that comes from having to live on the streets and seeing first hand how people can missus it and become dependant on it . Only ask for help if there is no other way and I have found there is nearly always a way but then I do live in a country that does not try to run people into the ground so you will die earlier than you should . |

I have no other way, I got the cable company to lower my bill by about $18 a month, I'm in a spot as my pc allows me to pay and keep track of my bills, being disabled sucks, I'm not asking to upgrade anything, just to get a working pc again that won't require me to erase my pc's hdd, I'm typing this on my phone and my OA is barely under control. And don't ask me a stupid question or accuse me of something I did not do... The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Zoom I lost a HD a few weeks ago but I am not asking for help . I'm also disabled . I also have just got the N.B.N broadband on with optus Fetch box but seeing as they did not tell me I have to pay a extra $15 for the subcryption guess what I have decided to do not pay and go without pay T.V. I proberly could kick up a stink and get the subscription for free seeing as they where not totally honest in there advertising but no I won't . Even thou I have kicked up a stick about it and got then to change there offer to everyone else . That computer is running on a old HD that has win Xp until I can buy a new HD exactly like the one that stopped and then I can change the pc board on the drive and access the info at least and copy the contents to another drive. There is all ways a way and that means going without for a while , I have a friend here at seti that is very disabled and in a lot worse a situation than both of us but you know what he does he works for himself and the guy is in a wheelchair has only one good leg and it is also stuffed but you don't see him coming here and asking to be funded when his equipment stops he does what I do figure something out to pay for it and if that means working and putting up with some pain for a while he does . When you ask to often you fall into the habbit of always asking and not thinking and figuring out another way or going without and why I find it offensive |

Right now cause of a lack of access to my notes that are on a usb stick, I can't even balance my checkbook, I can see what I spent, but I can't tell how much extra is in my checking account beyond what I'm already obligated for, all I know is that I will have $31.64 on Thorsday, if there is another $2 there I can't tell, the bank would just love to add $49.00 in fees to my account... But then some think I'm rich, well I am not, not on $889.40 month, I had to take out a payday loan to replace 2 tires on my car, but then I pay property taxes on my mobile home, now I have a 3rd problem happen and all I ask is for some help. well if you could afford a few buck's for postage then I would be asking someone if they had a MoBo spear they would kindly give you to replace the MoBo that's gone caput and offer to reimburse them for the postage at least then your meeting them 1/2 way you may find that said person will say no worry's about the postage . It may mean you will end up with a slower system as they may only have a older MoBo for a core 2 with the chip that would at least help you out of the tight spot your in . Something to think about next time . Asking for cash is not a good look . |

Here's something for you to ponder on, I have 2 EVGA motherboards, 1 is going to be rmaed, the other 1 may or may not boot, I have had my share of bad luck with EVGA motherboards, while with ASUS I have had good luck, mostly, the latest one is an ASUS Rampage IV Extreme(x79 chipset), problem is my drive has an incompatible mbr partition made with a P55 chipset, I'd have to format my boot drive, which would erase everything on my 500GB hdd. No you would not have to reformat it . Again there are options . You may be able to remake the mbr in dos .From the command prompt in safe mode or with a bootable cd rom . I think your win 7 disc will allow you to also do this . You can put a different drive in to boot up and still connect the drive with the info on it to access it . there are options . And all will help if you don't know how to do it |

No you would not have to reformat it . Again there are options . Not according to. Win 7 it says repartition from mbm to gpt, that says reformat to Me, I have no way to back up my hdds entire contents, none and I don't have the money to do that, nor will anyone lift a finger to do so.
