As a Brit I would like to hear from non Brits as to what you feel our government's statement that we will soon surpass even America in terms of growth factor. Actually not just that but it might be refreshing to gain a general sense of where people in the world outside of the UK (you?) feel Britain fit's in the world community. It's not an invitation for polarized arguement's. Just a wish to hear what other people think about the society I live in. |

I would say good for Britain. Sounds like you have leaders who are thinking whats good for all. Not whats good for themselves like we have. [/quote] Old James |

I would say good from all Scandinavian countries as well. But without Britain in the EU the Scandinavian countries are lost as well. For now it's seems that the EU project is cracking down. Perhaps EU should be divided to North Europe and South Europe. |

As a Brit I would like to hear from non Brits as to what you feel our government's statement that we will soon surpass even America in terms of growth factor. I'm not as well versed in the politics of other countries in the same way outsiders to the U.S. seem to be versed in American politics. All I can say is that such a statement is rather ambiguous and on the surface means little. By growth factor, do they mean their Domestic Product? Economic projections of the British Pound / Euro? Population growth? More context would probably be helpful. Also, is such a statement backed by evidence, or is it a blowhard statement meant to throw down a challenge and provide spirited competition between allies? In a very generalized sense, I would say that economic growth is always good. As to how I feel about Britain in the world community, I would say I've seen various news reports of British / European Courts making decisions I personally disagree with. I keep such comments to myself because I do not feel proper in making them without knowing the culture and local politics involved. Is that the kind of feedback you're looking for? |

All Americans in this thread should know that the English have a great many things in common with their American cousins regardless of the Atlantic divide. The most important thing to know is that both peoples are the best in the world at just about every thing. That is it, any statement made by either one or the other must be taken as gospel with out question. For the other peoples of the planet this state of affairs is very comfortable indeed. One need not ever check any facts, or assume doubt in any way at their pronouncements. edit: If I am wrong, even just a little bit, please be sure to let me know.... |

Perhaps it is all about the quality of the products which you are able to make. In fact big is not always better, but if a thing is having a flaw, it most likely will be showing up as well. Probably noone is perfect when it comes to the manufacturing of certain products, but assumedly the Swiss watch is better that any Japanese watch and at the same time you should also be measuring quality against quantity as well. Personally I prefer digital from analog, though. |

As a Brit I would like to hear from non Brits as to what you feel our government's statement that we will soon surpass even America in terms of growth factor. Not know what is supposed to be growing ........ As to courts, England and America used to share a common law system. That was until the 1780's or so when America decided to take a different road. I accept that I may disagree with the outcomes of cases, but I do not say that the decision was wrong. Different rules result in different outcomes. One rule difference that becomes obvious on these fora is that of free speech. I see a tendency in some from Brittan to want to censor speech that isn't "proper." Americans however don't want to censor improper speech, they will however censor speech that causes panic or incites riots or violence. |

As a Brit I would like to hear from non Brits as to what you feel our government's statement that we will soon surpass even America in terms of growth factor. My impression of things EU-related... In my opinion, the EU needs the UK a lot more than the UK needs the EU... Stay or go... that is up to the people of the UK (only) to decide. But regardless of that... the UK and the EU both (seperately or together) need to shoulder a greater part of the burden of defense. We can't afford it anymore. 'growth factor'?? depends on what is meant by that. Where the UK fits? Not on top, but certainly far from the bottom. So... Somewhere in the upper range of 'the middle'. Other thoughts... The UK has (as does the USA as well) a lot of more internal problems they need to get sorted out. And (just like the USA) it needs to be themselves that sort it out. Other nations need to refrain from meddling. None of this is meant to start any 'polarized arguments', just my honest opinion. |

As a British Born person who's now a Australian you lot would not be doing so bloody good if we had not let you buy B.H.P so from down under bugger off and stop coming down to the colony to steal our wealth . You would not be doing so well if your banks that are in my country weren't protected by our government during the G.F.C like Bank of Scotland so again from down under bugger off we are no longer your COLONY. Oh by the way how's those zero work hour contracts working out for you lot !! Nice way to fiddle the unemployment books ay . Look everyone the unemployment stats are down . Pity no one has any cash from there so called ZERO work contracts but does look good on the front pages of the news . After all you can't count someone as unemployed if they have a zero work contract as they have a job (even thou they are not earning anything and still get there dole payment ) Sorry your still asleep and dreaming .......wake up!!!!! |
