I joined on 14 Feb and now have three computers working on the account (I dropped the old, slow laptop because it was contributing less than 3% of the total, not worth the few watts required to run it). The last computer was added on 21 Feb, and my total contribution rate has remained constant since then (no changes to increase the contribution of any computer).

My RAC is now at 3377 and rising. Since it can't continue to rise indefinitely, it will have to level out at some point, showing as much "down" as "up". But it has yet to show its first "down" day; every day has been higher than the previous. Just wondering when I should expect that to happen; i.e., what is BOINC's definition of "recent"?

While I'm here, another question related to credits.

Scenario: A workunit is sent today to one of my computers and one other computer. My computer reports the result on 13 March, and the other computer reports on 15 March. I understand that I don't receive my credit until 15 March. But in my statistics, is the credit applied to 15 March, or retroactively applied to 13 March? I'm reminded of my high school accounting class!

RAC takes a few weeks to settle down.

Credit is only granted after a task has been validated against its twin. (Unlike some other projects that give credit away on completion of a task, and perform little or no validation of the work returned SETI does have a fairly rigorous validation process in place)

Credit is only granted after a task has been validated against its twin.

Right, please re-read. I understand that, my question was whether the credit is applied to the date I completed the task or the date I received the credit, on my BOINC Statistics graphs. It could be applied retroactively to the date my computer reported, and the case could be made that that would make more sense. The graphs would reflect when my computer completed the task that earned the credit, not when it received the credit (and they could potentially be weeks or even months apart). I'm not suggesting a change, just curious which way it works, if anyone knows.

The difference affects the "total" graphs directly. And it would probably affect the "average" graphs indirectly, as they derive from the "total" graphs.

It's very possible I try to understand too much, it's a bad habit resulting from a 30-year career in software development.

March 15 ... maybe

As mentioned
Credit is only granted after a task has been validated against its twin.

If either your computer, or the other computer (a/k/a your 'wingman') returns the work unit (wu) with a status of "Completed, validation inconclusive", the wu will be sent to another computer for validation. Remember, this is based upon the premise that your wingman has crunched the WU.

If your wingman Aborts the wu, it will be sent to another wingman. Also, the wu may not be validated prior to its deadline. I've read where the deadline is between 4-6 weeks. (At present, there are several in my task list that have 54 days.) This could result from various reasons, such as your wingman having computer issues, or simply decides to stop crunching for SETI. By not aborting the wus, they will remain unvalidated until they reach their respective deadlines and are subsequently sent to another wingman (where theoretically, this could all happen again).

my question was whether the credit is applied to the date I completed the task or the date I received the credit, on my BOINC Statistics graphs.

More accurately - the date you receive the credit.
Please note that this is based upon my experience, and that there are crunchers with far more knowledge as to the nuances of s@h and BOINC.

You can view more detailed info(charts & graphs) about your granted credit at sites like BOINC Stats.

The Statistics graph is updated at times that your BOINC has communicated with the Seti server and it sent a revised value for credit and recent average credit. If more than one communication per day, the last value is used for the graph.

Jord:
Is there a definitive time period assigned for the deadline?
What happens to that deadline when the wu is aborted? or when the wu reaches its initial deadline and is put back into the queue to be resent?

What happens to that deadline when the wu is aborted?

The task that gets aborted or has its deadline met will keep the deadline it had, the resent task will get a new deadline. The resent task will get a same length deadline that the original task had.

So if you got a task today with a deadline of two weeks and you abort it after a week, it gets resent with a two week deadline.

I thought it might be given a renewed deadline. Is there any specific time period assigned to MB or AP wu deadlines. Just by looking at my task list, I would guess no. If not, then is there a range (ex. 4-6 weeks)?

As far as I know, it depends on the run time length of the task. Shorties (like VHARs) will get a two week deadline, long tasks (like VLARs) may get 3 or 4 weeks. APs get a 4 week deadline, if I am not mistaken.
