I rolled my own client for my AMD64 machine running FC3, it compiled okay but when it tried to contact the SETI server to grab work units, it threw up the error msg: "Message from server: platform 'x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu' not found" .. and just looped continuously doing so. I grabbed the latest boinc_public-cvs-2005-01-11.tar.gz yesterday morning, I presume the source should be okay? Does anyone know how to resolve this, please? I'm back using the stock linux BOINC client so I'm not losing crunching time, I'd just like to get a home-rolled client working properly. <img src="http://forums.teamphoenixrising.net/images/tprlogo.gif"> |

Hi, You need to create/edit an app_info.xml file. If you use the example app_info.xml file from link in the previous post you would change the two occurrences of the string "setiathome_4.07_windows_intelx86.exe" to be whatever your seti client executable file is. Presumably it is something like "setiathome_4.7_i686-pc-linux-gnu". The version string you see in the app_info.xml file doesn't seem to matter much, since I just discovered in looking that one of my systems has it set to "47" and the others are "407" and they all work. Curious... I probably ought to fix that. Anyway, the app_info.xml file needs to go into the seti@home "project" directory "setiathome.berkeley.edu"; e.g. on my system we find it in: [root@badboy root]# locate app_info.xml /var/boinc/chroot/var/boinc/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/app_info.xml You will also need to make sure that the seti executable, "setiathome_4.7_i686-pc-linux-gnu", located in that SAME directory; i.e., the same place as the app_info.xml file: ~/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/ I hope this helps... ==> dave |

Does anyone know when it will be seti client that compile at 64-bit gcc ? Boinc 4.14 and 4.59 compiled without any errors. Only seti gets crazy :(((( -- Get up, stand up! Don\'t give up the fight! Credits will make everybody feel high! ;-) |

I think I have done everything properly following this thread, app_info.xml changes, moving the executable, etc. When I run the boinc client it downloads the work (without any errors) but there is no CPU usage. Any idea where to troubleshoot from here? Running Gentoo 2.6.9.-r14... |

You would think the 64 OS would be higher than my Windows XP Jim |
