Host names are not published to the public and thats why people are unable to see them. Basically the comcast designation is assigned to your computer from the comcast DHCP server. When BOINC asks for the DNS computer name that is what Windows returns. It is only displayed to you, and is not used by the system. It is meant to be able to help you identify your computer in case of a problem. ----- Rom BOINC Development Team, U.C. Berkeley My Blog |

[yes, > more 'puters, MORE 'PUTERS] definatly, more 'puters, but he said he has 17 already; i'll bet there is at least one router there already. of my 10, one does this. i have check the PC Name, but not the TCP/IP settings. it is also in a different workgroup than the rest of my LAN as it was my GF's old work PC. This is of course, behind a router (then another router, then a hub). since i haven't fixed this myself i can't be sure, but my bet is in the TCP/IP, whether i'll need to set static IP or use different DNSs (like most of my others) i don't know. I'll check on that tonight when i get home to see if i can find out. S@h Berkeley's Staff Friends Club |

I have an ME laptop on the same router as my *nix, 2K, and XP boxes and it still comes up *.verizon.net. The *nix, 2K, and XP machines do not exhibit this behavior (looks to be a Win 9X deal). |
