'Pancake Day' is coming soon.

Pancakes for me shouldn't be sweet in themselves but must always have a little melted butter on them.

I like them savoury with 'grated cheddar cheese, sweet chilli sauce & fresh ground black pepper' or sweet with 'honey & nutmeg.'

What's your perfect pancake fantasy?

I like the classic Lemon & sugar and some vanilla ice cream on the sidefor sweet crepes. I also like American style buttermilk pancakes with crispy bacon & Maple syrup.

In fact I like most pancakes sweet or savoury, unless they have nuts.

I don't like nuts; not alergic, I just don't like most of them, cashews are an exception.
Happy Crunching,

Graham

Gnu. I miss Miggins.

(I suspect we all do even if we don't know it or say it.)

She always knows how to whip up a good batter.

Do you think she might come along and give us her favourite pancake recipie.

I'm all of a quiver now :)

Gordon. Pancakes with rabbits underneath remind me of childhood lunches and Auntie Maude.

Love Auntie Maude but So glad I'm a veggie now ;)

How can you possibly eat a pancake with anything other than maple syrup on it? It boggles the mind.

For me a pancake has to be simple - sugar and lemon juice (preferably straight from the lemon). Failing that with maple syrup, but as others have said that tends to be expensive over here
Crepes - these are fancy things that look like pancakes but aren't, and may be sweet or savory.
Then there's those buttermilk ones from the far side of the pond, nice with ice cream....

Pancakes are okay as long as they don't have rabbits involved. I like them sweet but don't really like "maple flavored" pancake syrup, or really any "morning food", but strawberry jam/jelly/preserves are good, no butter.
Maple syrup is £18 per kilogram in the UK? Man, I thought it was expensive here...
Does anyone know, in taste is Golden Syrup like white sugar syrup with a little molasses, or what? I have never seen it sold anywhere but its in Treacle Tarts, which also are only found in the UK I guess. Or how Clotted Cream is different than cream cheese or cottage cheese or yogurt. See, I have no real idea what it is but am curious.

I buy Krusteaz pancake mix, plus 'maple' syrup and some margarine on each pancake, at least when I have pancakes, which is not all the time, right now I have about a cup or less of mix left in the plastic bag.

You realize that margarine is the worst thing you can put in your body? Do yourself a favor and use real butter.

I just saw something about making maple syrup on TV a couple
of days ago. They said it takes 40 gallons of maple sap to make
one gallon of maple syrup.

That might explain why it's so expensive.

I made a batch of pancakes from scratch last week. Flour, buttermilk, oil, eggs, and small amounts of other stuff. YUM!

Unfortunately, I was (and still am) out of bacon.

Then I used Cracker Barrel syrup, just because I don't want to throw it out. Don't really like it, though.

That sounds more like litres, not gallons. The watery stuff they make in Ontario takes about 10 gallons (30 litres), while the real stuff from Quebec takes a bit more. Of course, if you want maple sugar, you start with about 10 gallons of syrup to make two gallons of sugar.

In any case, it still takes a long time, and a lot of trees to even get 10 litres of sap. That's a big part of why it is so expensive.

We had enough maple trees on our land
when I was a kid that we got about a quart
of syrup every spring. I don't exactly remember
just how much sap it took to make that much.

edit:
We have some here now, LSM says it may be around $20.oo a litre...
