Guess that answers my question, eh?

:( I think my puny single-core machine may possibly be beyond rescuing. Apparently, it locked-up three or four days ago and I didn't notice until I couldn't connect to it in BOINC Manager. Went and hit the reset button and it restarted, and I figured it would come up in a minute, but after 5 minutes.. B.M. still hadn't connected to it. Pulled up a command prompt to ping it.. nothing.

Flipped the rocker switch and waited 5 minutes and turned it back on, and it booted up and resumed crunching for... I guess somewhere around 15 minutes, then locked-up again.

I'm doing memtest86 on it now. If it's not that, then I'll need to put a multi-meter on the power supply and see what the *actual* voltage outputs are, rather than relying on what the board reports.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was time to replace capacitors again, even though I haven't done it on the board that's in there now (I did twice before.. on the previous board).

It's not like that machine was a power-house or anything though. I've held-off with upgrading to the new Lunatics package, to do my part with helping clear-out MBv7. If I decide not to try saving this machine though.. it *will* boot up and run long enough for me to abort what it has, at least, but I'd rather not have it come down to that.

The downloads are slow but alive, the uploads would be faster if I typed each bit manually.

Same here, Forum is crawling at a snails pace.

I have like 10 uploads hung up.

Log says -- Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down

Time to panic is NOW .. lol

Uploads are slow on the beta site as well. Perhaps it is a network problem.

Update on my single-core machine issues (I was able to click the edit button, but in the time it took to type the update.. I had gone past the 60-minute window).

memtest passed. I ended up taking out the 2x256's out of slots 3/4 and dropped down to just a matching-pair of 2x512 in 1/2. It's now DDR-400 dual-channel instead of 333 single.

Power supply stats, according to a multimeter, with the system running and under full (normal) load:
12v: 12.19
5v: 5.24
3.3v: 3.39

So those are all good, too. The caps on the board look fine. There are two that are ever-so-slightly bulged, but barely noticeable. One of the fans in the PSU was locked-up. A piece of glue from the PSU assembly had apparently come loose and wedged itself in the fan. Reached in through the fan guard with some pliers and pulled the chunk of glue out and the fan spun right up, but was squeaking and chirping. Shut the system down and put two drops of 10w-30 full-synthetic motor oil in the bearing... chirping stopped.

So I'll see what it's stability is now that I pulled some RAM out and fixed that PSU fan.

And yeah, everything on this site got really slow. I thought I was yet another issue when I told BOINC on that machine to update, even though it didn't need to. I was starting to get worried after it took 80 seconds for a "reporting 0 completed tasks, requesting 0 seconds of work" contact. Now I see it's not just me. That makes me feel a little better about that.

The replica database is 68 seconds behind.

I guess it's about to crash.
